Imagine you’re sitting at a poker table in a casino. You’ve just lost a hand in which you went all-in. You notice your table has a Light & Wonder AToM debit terminal that lets you rebuy without leaving the table.

You reach into your pocket for your wallet, but quickly realize your debit card is gone. You left it in your car, and you don’t want to take the 20-minute round-trip walk to get it.

A new deal between Light & Wonder and Shift4 could save you from that walk. The two companies announced this week they’ll work together to provide a payment experience that could include card-not-present transactions.

Shift4 Senior Vice President of New Verticals Anthony Perez said in a Business Wire statement:

“Light & Wonder is a leader in cashless solutions for casinos, and Shift4 is excited to enhance the player experience for its customers. We are quickly growing our presence in the gaming space with our ability to deliver both card-present and card-not-present solutions, and this agreement further enhances our capabilities for our casino customers.”

Light & Wonder AToMs allow cashless table transactions at the casino

Light & Wonder’s AToM (Access To On-demand Money) is available at more than 650 table games in:

  • California
  • Nevada
  • New Mexico
  • New Jersey

Their technology allows players to rebuy chips without leaving the table. Typically, these transactions take place with a debit card and there are no added fees.

For the consumer, AToM levels up tableside convenience. For the casino, it helps keep players at tables longer. Additionally, AToM sends real-time transaction information to the casino, making it easy to keep track of cashless table transactions.

While neither Light & Wonder nor Shift4 detailed what the partnership entails, we know that the deal will boost Shift4’s footprint in the US casino industry. Additionally, the collaboration could result in cardless tableside payments, as Shift4 offers contactless payments and payments through QR codes.

Another benefit of the deal with Shift4 is that Light & Wonder can leverage the company’s in-app marketing campaigns, which can help casinos capture new customers and boost retention.

“AToM is unbelievably simple, intuitive and offers a great convenience for players. Integrating Shift4’s payment processing capabilities allows us to drive greater value and retention for our customers and a better experience for players,” Light & Wonder Senior Vice President Mike McKiski said.

“These solutions complement each other, and our current product family, enabling us to deliver a truly differentiated offering.”

Editor’s note: The story has been updated to correct the name of Light & Wonder.
