For Florida lottery players, the Sunshine State just got a little brighter.

Lottery courier service theLotter announced this week it will launch in Florida soon, making it the first courier to announce entry into the state. When the company goes live in Florida, it will be the first time in history that people in Florida can acquire lottery tickets online.

Yael Hertz, theLotter’s CEO, said in a statement that the company is “thrilled” to enter the Florida market:

“Our launch in the Sunshine State marks a significant milestone for theLotter, and we are extremely proud to offer an accessible platform for ordering lottery tickets online.

This brings a renewed level of convenience to customers in the area.”

PlayUSA reached out to theLotter for comment but did not receive a response.

Key takeaways

  • theLotter will be launching soon in Florida.
  • The Sunshine State is the sixth market in which the company will launch.
  • theLotter recently debuted in New Jersey and New York.

Courier services provide online option for lottery ticket acquisition

As the first courier service to announce entry into the Florida market, theLotter will get a significant share of an untapped market: FL online lottery ticket acquisition. US online lottery sales are not allowed in Florida, so people have to buy games at brick-and-mortar lottery retailers.

Lottery couriers like theLotter, Jackpocket, and Jackpocket.com don’t sell tickets directly to customers. Instead, they accept payments from their customers and then purchase lottery games from a licensed retailer on behalf of the customer.

Couriers provide a critical service, as 12 of 45 states with lotteries offer state-run online sales. As Hertz pointed out to PlayUSA last month, courier services like the lottery capitalize on the concept that convenience is king: “theLotter provides a way to order lottery tickets from the comfort of your home or office.”

How to acquire lottery tickets through theLotter

At the time of publishing, theLotter’s Florida website was not active. However, once the site is active, users can follow a few simple steps to buy tickets:

  • Go to theLotter website and set up an account.
  • Verify their age and identity.
  • Verify they’re located in Florida.
  • Add a payment method.

theLotter doesn’t require a deposit for users to open an account.

Florida launch marks rapid expansion for theLotter

theLotter’s announcement about its forthcoming launch in Florida is the latest in a string of licensing and launch wins for the courier service.

In late June, the company announced it earned an iLottery courier service license in New York, one of the country’s biggest lottery markets. It launched in the weeks that followed.

A few weeks before that, theLotter went live in New Jersey, a development that theLotter US Managing Director Peggy Daniel said was “a great milestone.”

theLotter is available in five states: Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Texas. New York and Florida will bump the company’s total markets to six.
