The margin wasn’t much at all, but May 2024 technically saw Nevada casinos win more money from players than they have in May of any previous year. Hence, casino win in Nevada is also on a slight record pace for a fiscal year.

With just one month left in that term, it would take a disappointing June for Nevada casinos not to close out their strongest fiscal year ever in terms of win. Although the size of these records isn’t jaw-dropping, the fact that they are still being broken is remarkable.

Nevada casinos win more than $1.3 billion in May

According to a release from the Nevada Gaming Control Board, casinos across the state reported more than $1.3 billion in win for May 2024. That’s a slight improvement from an almost identical figure in May 2023 but nonetheless a new high for the month in the state.

As a result, Nevada collected almost $88.5 million in taxes on that win. Year-over-year improvements for May 2024 were most pronounced in the North Lake Tahoe subregion, which saw win grow by nearly 16.8% compared to May 2023.

The only other subregion to see significant annual improvement in May in terms of win was Wendover in Elko County. There, May 2024’s total was more than 6.1% higher than May 2023’s. All other regions saw either marginal improvements, marginal declines or significant declines in a year-over-year comparison for May.

Those numbers can fluctuate greatly from month to month although the statewide total has been remarkably consistent. Recent history shows that Nevada casinos continue to prove capable of increasing their win totals amid fluctuating circumstances.

While online sports betting is available in the state, Nevada online casinos are not. Online poker can be played legally in the state.

The enviable reliability of Nevada casino win

It seems like nothing short of a global pandemic can stop Nevada casinos from improving upon their past numbers, even if it’s only slightly. While statistically significant growth is obviously ideal, marginal growth is preferable to many alternatives for any business.

May extends Nevada casinos’ streak of consecutive months with at least a billion dollars in win to 39, meaning that it’s been three and a quarter years since the statewide win total for a month was last under 10 figures. While growth has not been an unbroken linear experience during that time, the upward trajectory has occurred overall regardless.

Amid inflation, rising air travel costs, weather challenges, and other situations, the balance of Nevada’s gaming industry continues to push forward. The wins not may not be big, but they just keep coming.
