January has been good to Mega Millions jackpot winners

Maybe January will be someone’s lucky month like it’s been in the past. The start of the year has seen its fair share of winners. Since 2011, three winners have claimed the top prize in January, with two of them ranking in the Top 10 largest jackpots in history, according to a Mega Millions release.

  • $437 million (1/1/2019)10th largest
  • $451 million (1/5/2018)9th largest
  • $380 million (1/14/2011)

The record for the largest sum ever won goes to a lucky winner in South Carolina who collect $1.537 billion back on October 23, 2018.

The current $510 million prize amounts to roughly a $377.4 million cash prize, after taxes.

Meanwhile, if you were to also factor in the $470 million Powerball jackpot that’s up for grabs, the two have a combined prize of nearly $1 billion.
