Enticing New Casino Rewards Coming To Las Vegas Via Virgin Hotels Opening

Nevada Gaming Control (NGC) is recommending that the board approve Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment (MGE) for a gaming license in the Silver State. During its Oct. 22 meeting, the board is expected to approve MGE and Mohegan Sun to operate the casino inside Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. If approved, Mohegan Sun would be the first Native American tribe-operated Las Vegas casino.

Mohegan Gaming’s flagship property is in Uncasville, CT, but the company operates several casinos in the US and around the world. If approved for a license in Nevada, Mohegan Gaming will operate casinos in the following states and countries:

  • Connecticut
  • Pennsylvania
  • Louisiana
  • New Jersey
  • Nevada
  • Washington
  • South Korea (soon)
  • Canada (Niagara and Fallsview) *currently closed

Las Vegas will gain new Momentum from Mohegan Sun

If approved for a license, Mohegan Sun will bring its popular Momentum Rewards program to Las Vegas. The Mohegan Sun casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is on schedule to open on Jan. 15, 2021.

The Momentum Rewards program will connect players from casinos in the states above to Las Vegas for the first time. The rewards will be reciprocal. Players in Las Vegas will have access to promotions and discounts in different casinos.

The following casinos are all part of Momentum rewards:

US

  • Mohegan Sun (CT)
  • Mohegan Sun Pocono (PA)
  • Resorts (NJ)
  • Ilani (WA)
  • Paragon (LA)
  • Virgin Las Vegas (NV)

International

  • Inspire (S. Korea)
  • Fallsview (CAN)
  • Niagara (CAN)

Having access to new casinos in different markets is a bonus for existing guests at Mohegan Sun properties. Likewise, this opens up new properties to gamblers in Las Vegas.

For example, this will be the first time a Las Vegas casino guest will have access to rewards in Washington state, the Poconos in Pennsylvania and, of course, Mohegan Sun’s flagship property in Connecticut.

Momentum Dollars and Status Points

Players must use their Momentum card when gambling to earn Status Points and Momentum Dollars. Simply place the rewards card into a game machine or hand it to a dealer at a table game.

Momentum Dollars may be redeemed for food, beverages, goods or gift cards. They may also be used for free play in machine games or free bets for table games. Players must use a kiosk to print out free bets for table games.

Status Points are earned based on rated play at a machine or table game. These points are not eligible for redemption. Status Points will allow a player to climb to different tier levels to earn more benefits.

Status Points will expire every six months. The two earnings periods are April 1 through Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 through March 31. If a player doesn’t earn any points during that period, their account will reset to zero.

Momentum Rewards status levels

Momentum Rewards has five status levels. While the levels may require the same amount of points to achieve, the benefits at different casinos may vary. Here are the Momentum Rewards status levels and how many Status Points are needed for each:

  • Core: 0-24 Status Points
  • Ignite: 25-249 Status Points
  • Leap: 250-1,499 Status Points
  • Ascend: 1,500+ Status Points
  • Soar: 5,000+ Status Points

Tier level is important for players seeking rewards. According to Mohegan Sun, players will be eligible to receive offers and rewards based on their tier or rated play levels. Additionally, offers via mail may be different for players depending on their frequency of play.

The tier benefits of Momentum’s casino rewards

Climbing tiers of a casino loyalty rewards program is different depending on the casino operator. Everyone who joins Momentum Rewards will start at the Core tier. The entry level of the program allows players to accumulate more Status Points and Momentum Dollars.

Core Tier and up

Everyone who signs up for Momentum Rewards will receive complimentary parking and various discounts and offers that will likely be on par with those at other Las Vegas casinos.

The standout perk for all Momentum Rewards members is that the resort fees are waived for all complimentary rooms.

This benefit could save a player as much as $50 per night per room. Virgin Las Vegas hasn’t released room prices or resort fees yet.

Ignite Tier

Ignite is the second level of Momentum Rewards. This level has all the benefits from Core plus the following:

  • Discounts at select restaurants
  • 5% Momentum Dollar accelerator
  • 5% spa service discount
  • Presale access for select shows

The accelerator for this and other levels should help players generate even more comp dollars to use around the property.

Leap Tier

The first thing to note is that the discounts and accelerators are greater than the Ignite level of the Momentum Rewards program:

  • 15% Momentum Dollar accelerator
  • 10% spa service discount

Leap also provides access to a priority service line at the cashier, Momentum Rewards desk and check-in. Members at Leap status and above also have their own priority call center phone number.

Ascend Tier

Ascend is where the benefits really start to stand out. The Ascend level has many more benefits than the lower Momentum Rewards tiers:

  • Priority and complimentary valet parking
  • VIP check-in at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas
  • Complimentary early check-in and late checkout
  • Complimentary access to the resort pool
  • Complimentary cabana at the resort pool (one per quarter)
  • Complimentary VIP transportation to and from the airport
  • Complimentary stay at MGE properties (up to three nights and $100 resort credit)
  • A complimentary stay with MGE partners (up to three nights at MSC Cruises, Baha Mar or Mount Snow)

Bigger spenders always receive more casino rewards. These are some of the better rewards for the second-highest tier of a casino rewards program in Las Vegas. The increased accelerator should give Ascend members even more complimentary food and beverages.

Soar Tier

Soar is the highest level of the Momentum Rewards program. The benefits are even bigger and better than at the lower tiers. For starters, the complimentary trips are a little longer than for Ascend members:

  • Complimentary stay at MGE properties (up to five nights and $250 resort credit)
  • Complimentary stay with MGE partners (up to five nights at MSC Cruises, Baha Mar or Mount Snow)

Similarly, Soar members have access to more complimentary cabanas at the resort pool. Instead of one per quarter, Soar guests have one free cabana once per month. The complimentary VIP transportation for Soar members also includes trips to the Vegas Strip. While rideshares don’t cost much, this is a nice perk.

Soar members have priority access to just about everything the property has to offer. Guests receive a hotel room guaranteed with just a two-hour reservation in advance of arrival.

Every month, Soar members receive a $150 resort credit. Every year, members of this tier receive a $500 travel credit for a Momentum Rewards trip.

Aspire private gaming salon

Momentum Rewards isn’t the only thing Mohegan Sun is bringing from its East Coast properties. The company also will bring its luxury brand Aspire to Las Vegas. During the meeting with NGC, General Manager Joe Hasson said the company is building an Aspire private gaming salon.

The existing customer base from other MGE casinos is important for the company to generate revenue in Las Vegas, and Aspire is part of that strategy. Hasson wants to make sure the highest of high rollers have the same great experience in Las Vegas that they enjoy elsewhere.

High rollers from the East Coast properties will receive invitations to enjoy the private gaming lounge. The lounge will provide the Mohegan Sun experience that MGE guests are used to from other markets. New guests will have to meet certain qualifications to play in the room.

This part of the casino will have gaming rules and odds similar to those that are offered at other Mohegan Sun properties. For example, guests should be paid 3:2 when they’re dealt a natural blackjack. Some Las Vegas casinos only pay 6:5 for a natural blackjack.

Mohegan Sun hasn’t released details on gaming odds and rules yet. The choice to have good odds and rules in one part of the casino could lead one to believe that the main casino floor will offer 6:5 payouts for blackjack and/or other less desirable gaming conditions.
