In August, Missouri casino gambling reached $156.38 million in adjusted gross revenue (AGR), a decrease from July.
According to the latest report from the Missouri Gaming Commission, the figure represents a 7.7% monthly drop from July’s $168.5 million. It’s mainly due to July being a solid month for Missouri casinos.
Likewise, the revenue figure is a 2.87% yearly drop from nearly $161 million generated in August 2022.
The state has 13 riverboat casinos, but Missouri online gambling is strictly prohibited.
Ameristar Casino was the top revenue earner in August winning over $23.3M
Missouri’s three casinos combined to accumulate nearly $64 million of AGR, almost 41% of the state-wide revenue for August.
- Ameristar Casino Resort Spa in St. Charles led the way in revenue, generating more than $23.3 million, a 12% year-over-year drop.
- River City Casino and Hotel in St. Louis was the runner-up with over $20.6 million in revenue, a 0.5% yearly drop.
- Hollywood Casino and Hotel in St. Louis was next, with a little under $20 million in revenue, a 3% yearly increase.
The MGC’s August revenue report revealed that Missouri riverboat casinos received around 2.39 million admissions, about 20,000 less than last year.
Missouri casinos collect about $38M in gaming taxes in August
Missouri casinos are obligated to pay a tax rate of 21%. The top three Missouri riverboat casino operators were:
- Ameristar St. Charles collected $4.9 million
- River City Casino and Hotel St. Louis paid $4.3 million to the state
- Hollywood Casino and Hotel St. Louis contributed with $4.2 million
The state also benefits from riverboat gambling by charging an admission fee. August admission fees were around $4.78 million for the state, with most of the money coming from the same casinos but in the following order:
- River City Casino and Hotel: $685,290
- Hollywood Casino and Hotel: $662,892
- Ameristar Casino Resort Spa: $652,506
In August, Missouri assembled over $32.84 million in taxes from casino gambling.
