Like New Jersey, Pennsylvania online casinos posted a modest increase, rising to $231.2 million in August from $228.3 million in July.

Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania all saw big jumps in year-over-year increases in online casino revenue, signalling continued growth in the online gambling sector.

Michigan posted the largest annual gain at 33.9%, earning $66.6 million more than in August 2024. Pennsylvania and New Jersey each saw increases of at least 25%. Combined, the three states’ revenue climbed 28.4% year over year.

Smaller online casino states show double-digit revenue growth

Connecticut and Delaware also posted significant year-over-year growth. Connecticut online casino revenue rose from $37.9 million in August 2024 to $49.8 million last month, a 31.4% increase. Delaware revenue surged 63.8% year over year, reaching $9.5 million.

Rhode Island’s August results are not yet available. However, its July revenue was strong: online casino win nearly doubled year over year, finishing at $5.1 million.

What’s ahead for iGaming’s big three?

Based on 2024 trends, Michigan and New Jersey are likely to continue posting higher online casino revenue in the months ahead. Pennsylvania, however, may see revenue plateau or slip slightly, as its totals declined from August 2024 and September 2024.

StateSeptember 2024August 2024% changeProjected September revenue

Pennsylvania$176.7 million$183.7 million-3.81%$222.4 million

Looking ahead to fall and winter, we could see New Jersey online casino revenue climb higher than in prior years. The state banned sweepstakes casinos in August, a move that could push more players toward regulated online casinos as sweepstakes options disappear.
