World Cup 2026 sets historic tri-nation hosting format
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the first edition hosted by three nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Matches will be played across 16 cities, marking a new era in the tournament’s history.
The expanded format includes 48 national teams, up from 32, which has been in place since 1998. Defending champions Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, arrived in North America to defend their title.
In total, 104 matches will be played between June 11 and July 19, when the final is scheduled at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
With more matches than ever, fans have increased opportunities to engage with the tournament. Bet365’s Tournament Challenge is designed to capitalize on that engagement through predictive gameplay tied to real match outcomes.
How Bet365’s World Cup prediction contest works
The contest is based on predictions and a points system. Users select outcomes for every fixture in each group-stage matchday and knockout round: home win, draw, or away win.
Each participant receives 10 points per fixture to allocate to their chosen outcomes. Points are awarded based on the odds at the time of entry, meaning less-likely results yield higher rewards.
A key feature is the “Daily Double,” which allows players to double their points on one selected match per matchday or knockout round. Choosing correctly can significantly improve a player’s position on the leaderboard.
All selections must be submitted before kickoff. Once a match begins, entries are locked. Players may adjust remaining picks before deadlines.
The contest also includes a “Your Leagues” feature, allowing users to create private leaderboards and compete with friends.
How players can win up to $250,000 total
The competition features two leaderboard tracks: matchday and overall tournament standings. Both offer independent prize pools, giving players multiple opportunities to win.
There are four matchday leaderboards: Matchdays 1, 2, and 3, plus the Round of 32. Each matchday winner receives $50,000. Additional prizes are awarded down to 50th place, including cash and Bet Credits.
The overall leaderboard features a separate prize structure.
- First place earns $50,000
- Second place receives $15,000
- Third place earns $5,000
- Prizes continue through 50th place, with a mix of cash and Bet Credits.
A participant who wins both a qualifying matchday leaderboard and the overall tournament could earn up to $250,000 in total winnings.
