BetMGM players in New Jersey can now play a real slot machine without going near one.
The operator launched Awager’s live slots on BetMGM Online Casino and Borgata Online on Thursday, giving players access to 50 physical cabinets featuring more than 30 titles. Every spin takes place on an actual machine in a regulated studio environment. Players watch the action in 4K and hear authentic machine audio as the reels spin in real time.
It sounds like a gimmick.
It isn’t. It’s a bet on a specific kind of player, and the company behind the technology has been more blunt about who that is than the announcement was.
“It’s an innovation that is utilizing streaming technology, or what we call remote control, where players who are apprehensive about playing a digital slot machine … can come in and actually play a physical device,” Awager North America General Manager Warren Steven said in 2025 as Aristocrat agreed to acquire the company.
Apprehensive about online slots. That’s the whole product.

The lineup includes Aristocrat cabinets such as Buffalo Ascension and Lightning Link, streamed through Awager’s technology with low-latency responsiveness designed to make the spins react close to real time.
“The addition of Awager’s live slots offering creates an exciting new way for our players to engage with slot machines digitally,” BetMGM Director of Gaming Rob Passerino said.
That’s the key distinction. These aren’t online versions of physical slots recreated as random number generator games. The player is remotely interacting with an actual machine.
Awager, now an Aristocrat company, uses proprietary hardware, software and streaming technology to connect players with physical casino machines. Aristocrat agreed to acquire the company from Oaktree Capital Management in October 2025 for an undisclosed sum.
For Aristocrat, the deal also gives its land-based slot content another route onto real-money online casino platforms. Buffalo Ascension and Lightning Link can reach online players through the physical machines without requiring the experience to be recreated as a separate digital slot.
BetMGM isn’t first to stream real slots
Awager already operates in New Jersey, and FanDuel was there first.
The company said in June 2025 that 119 machines were live in an Atlantic City studio serving FanDuel. Caesars followed with Remote Reels, launching its own Awager-powered studio at Tropicana Atlantic City with 25 physical slot machines.
So BetMGM is the third major operator to bring Awager’s live slot technology to New Jersey online casinos, not the opening of the category.
The industry keeps calling this authenticity. What it’s really selling is reassurance that the reels are real — for players who were never quite sure they were.
