DraftKings Online Casino paid a Michigan player $22.4 million on Nov. 26, 2025, on a 20-cent spin.
It was the largest jackpot any legal, regulated real-money online casino has ever paid a player in the United States.
It was not an isolated event. Caesars Palace Online Casino handed a New Jersey player $1,247,834.01 on Jan. 18, 2026, the largest online jackpot in that operator’s history.
Hard Rock Bet Online Casino broke its own New Jersey record twice in six weeks this summer, first at $2,097,043.30 on July 4 and then again at $2,949,857.40 on Aug. 14.
None of those four numbers has anything to do with the others.
By law, they never will.
Stack the biggest one against the number every slot jackpot in the country still gets measured against, and the comparison does the work.
A player at the Excalibur in Las Vegas won $39,713,982.25 on a Megabucks machine on March 21, 2003, the largest slot machine jackpot ever paid anywhere in the country, land-based or online, according to IGT, the game’s manufacturer, and still listed as the record by Guinness World Records. Dividing DraftKings’ $22.4 million by that number lands at 56.4%.
Twenty-three years separate the two records. A year ago, the online figure was worth less than half that share of Megabucks’ number.
Nothing about how a progressive jackpot is built changed between 2003 and 2025. What changed is how much money moves through the seven states where regulated online casino play is legal and how fast that money is growing.
Online casino jackpots keep setting records. Here is the full list and the rule that keeps it from going any higher.

Three legal states are missing from that table entirely. West Virginia, Delaware and Rhode Island have not produced a confirmed seven-figure online casino jackpot. That gap is no coincidence; it is the subject of the next section.
Why state gaming regulations keep jackpot pools separate
New Jersey’s gaming regulations require that internet gaming “occur within the State of New Jersey” and that the equipment that runs it be located in Atlantic City itself, in a restricted, secure area, unless housed in another licensed facility in the same city.
Michigan‘s version is blunter. An internet gaming operator, under state rule, “must place a server or other equipment that is capable of receiving wagers in the state of Michigan.” Full stop, and even the equipment that does not take wagers has to stay inside the United States. Every other regulated state runs some version of the same requirement.
Think of each state’s online casino market as its own sealed jar. A wager drops a coin in that state’s jar, and nowhere else. Michigan’s jar is enormous because the market for Michigan online casinos is enormous. Delaware’s, the smallest of the seven, has not filled to seven figures yet, at least not in any confirmed, publicly reported case.
Land-based slots do not work this way. Megabucks links thousands of machines across Nevada into one meter, which resets to a $10 million floor after a win, according to IGT’s own account of the network.
That jar is the size of an entire state’s casino floor, not one operator’s slice of one state’s online market. Nevada’s Gaming Control Board proposed cutting the state’s minimum progression rate on linked slot machines from 0.4% of each wager to 0.1% at a 2026 workshop, matching the floor most other states already use, specifically so games could eventually link jackpots across state lines.
The Nevada Gaming Commission has not adopted it. Its own Regulation 14 amendment, effective Feb. 26, 2026, still sets the minimum at 0.4%. Whenever it does move, the change targets land-based machines. Nothing in it touches online play.
Online casinos have tried the smaller version of that trick exactly once. IGT linked a Wheel of Fortune jackpot across land-based, mobile, and online play in New Jersey in 2023, the first “omnichannel” wide-area progressive jackpot in the country.
It is still a New Jersey-only jackpot, seeded at $500,000. No operator has linked an online casino jackpot across a state line even once in the more than a decade this industry has existed in the United States.
The technology already exists elsewhere in the same industry, just not in one piece. Six states — New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware and Nevada — share players for online poker under the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement, a compact regulators built on purpose so a thin market like Delaware’s or West Virginia’s could still offer a real poker game.
It is not one shared pool. Four separate operator networks split those six states differently:
- WSOP Online links Nevada, New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania
- BetMGM and FanDuel each run their own New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania pool
- BetRivers covers Michigan, Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia.
No equivalent compact, on any network, covers real-money online slots. A New Jersey player and a Michigan player can sit at the same poker table tonight, on any three of those four networks. They cannot chase the same jackpot meter on any game, anywhere in the country.

Bally’s Casino paid Rhode Island’s Giuseppe Manzi $1,156,105 at its land-based Lincoln casino in 2026, a win that later became a fraud and identity theft prosecution. Both are real, both are seven figures, and neither is an online casino jackpot. West Virginia has no comparable land-based example. And none of the three states’ online markets has produced a seven-figure jackpot of its own.
Age does not predict the outcome. Delaware was the first state in the country with legal, real-money online casino play, live since Nov. 8, 2013, more than 12 years now, and it still has not produced a confirmed seven-figure jackpot.
West Virginia has been live for more than five years. New Jersey online casinos, the second-oldest market in the table, still trail Michigan, a state that only started taking online casino wagers in January 2021.
What predicts it is the size of the state’s own player pool, meaning total money wagered, not years on the market. Michigan and New Jersey are simply the two biggest online casino markets in the country. Every jackpot over $2 million on the record book above was won in one of those two states, or in Connecticut and Pennsylvania, the next two biggest.
Pennsylvania’s third-place spot here is worth a caveat. It is one of the largest online casino markets in the country by any revenue measure, and its jackpots on the record book above, checked directly against DraftKings, BetMGM Online Casino, FanDuel, Golden Nugget, BetRivers and Parx, still top out lower than Connecticut’s.
That may be a real gap, or it may just mean Pennsylvania’s online casinos promote individual jackpot wins less aggressively than Michigan’s and New Jersey’s do. This record book measures which wins got publicized, not necessarily which wins were biggest, and Pennsylvania is the state most likely to be underrepresented by that method.
What market size means for progressive slot players
A player choosing where to spin is also, without necessarily realizing it, choosing the size of jar they are dropping a coin into. A Michigan or New Jersey player is chasing a jackpot that can realistically reach eight figures.
A Delaware, Rhode Island, or West Virginia online casino player, on the same game, built by the same studio, is chasing a jackpot that has not yet been confirmed to clear seven figures at all in that state.
DraftKings’ own progressive did something worth noting after its record fell. The meter did not reset to some token seed value. It restarted at $5.7 million, according to reporting on the win, already bigger than all but two other jackpots on the record book above.
The funding rate, meaning the share of each qualifying wager that feeds the meter, is not public, and DraftKings does not disclose it for this or any other of its progressives, so there is no way to independently explain why the reset landed where it did. Either way, it says something about how much money continues to move through Michigan’s market even in the days after a record payout.
None of this is automatic money for a player who simply logs in. DraftKings Online Casino has described its jackpot product as an opt-in feature: players “opt in to make an additional wager on several jackpot-eligible games” for a shot at the meter, and the current version launched from a $1 million starting point in February 2024.
A player wagering on a non-eligible game, or below a game’s qualifying bet, is not in the running, no matter how much money changes hands. The eligible games and minimum qualifying wagers are set by each operator, not standardized across the industry, so the paytable in the specific game is the only reliable source.
Identical online slot games do not share jackpots
The assumption, reasonable enough on its face, is that a hot slot title is essentially the same product wherever it is offered, so the jackpot behind it should be, too. Play Cash Eruption in New Jersey or in Connecticut and the reels look identical.
They are not connected. Every jackpot on the table above belongs to one operator, in one state, full stop. A New Jersey Cash Eruption win and a Connecticut Cash Eruption win, both from DraftKings Casino, both real, both on this list, drew from two entirely separate pools of money that happened to share a game’s artwork.
The regulatory architecture behind that separation is neither an accident nor new. It is the same border that keeps a live dealer studio built for Michigan from also serving Pennsylvania, and the reason online poker needed a compact at all was just to let players from different states sit at one table. Casino games never got that compact on any network. Nothing currently pending in any of the seven states would create one.
What the record book gives back, despite all of that, is the pace. A regulated US online casino jackpot has gone from $2.8 million in a good year to $22.4 million in about three years, entirely inside those sealed, single-state pools, because the two biggest of those pools, Michigan’s and New Jersey’s, kept growing fast enough on their own. Nobody linked anything to produce that number. The market did it alone.
The wall at the state line is not moving. The pools behind it keep getting bigger anyway.
Where legal online casino jackpots are currently active
Real money online casino play is live in seven states as of this writing:
- New Jersey
- Pennsylvania
- Michigan
- Connecticut
- West Virginia
- Delaware
- Rhode Island
Maine became the eighth state to legalize online casino gaming, effective July 29, 2026, but real-money play has not actually launched there yet, held up by rulemaking, licensing and a pending lawsuit over the Wabanaki Nations’ exclusivity in the law.
Nevada offers online poker only, not casino games. Nowhere else in the country can a player legally wager real money on an online slot.
Check a current jackpot meter inside the specific operator’s app or site, not on a third-party page. The number changes by the minute and varies by state and often by operator within the same state. DraftKings, for one, runs a live jackpot tracker inside its own casino product.
Take a “record” claim in a press release with a grain of salt before it changes how or where you play. Caesars’ Jan. 18, 2026 win was real, and it was the biggest jackpot that the operator had ever paid an online casino player.
It was also less than a tenth the size of the actual national record set two months earlier. Operators are not lying when they announce their own biggest win ever. They are just not always saying “ever, compared to everyone.”
