Malta-based Hacksaw Gaming is getting its cut of the US market.
The online gambling operator announced this week the West Virginia Lottery granted it a provisional license to operate in the state. Hacksaw CEO Marcus Cordes said the company is on a roll, gaining licenses across the globe this year:
“This latest expansion [in West Virginia] comes after our license approvals in Romania and the Isle of Man earlier in 2022, so we’re finishing the year just as strongly as we started it. Being granted this license is testimony to the quality of our games portfolio and shows just how robust and engaging our content is.”
The company operates more than 120 games with over 250 partners in nearly 20 regulated markets.
Where Hacksaw fits in the West Virginia online gambling market
Hacksaw should make an immediate impact on the West Virginia online gambling landscape. The company partners with Light & Wonder, a prominent player in North American gaming.
Hacksaw will enter the market with a full suite of more than 120 games, including more than 40 mobile-optimized scratchcards and 40 slot games.
The company will face some stiff competition, though. Familiar names like IGT, Everi, and Gan have been in the West Virginia market for at least a year.
Additionally, West Virginia’s online gambling market has exploded in the past year. Online gambling operators in the state jumped 60% year-over-year in October, and rose 12% month-on-month.
North American momentum continues
Hacksaw first broke into the North American market earlier this year. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario granted the company a license in April.
The company’s influence in Ontario got a significant boost last month, too. Hacksaw announced it signed a partnership with Logo-Quebec!, the state-run corporation that’s developing Quebec’s online casino.
Hacksaw Chief Commercial Officer Gabrielle Star said the partnership should be a “fruitful” and “long-lasting” one.
The company’s global growth skyrocketed since 2021
Hacksaw is no stranger to news of launches in new territories. Dating back to the Summer of 2021, the company has won licenses or launched in multiple countries and regions:
- Greece in August 2021
- Denmark in October 2021
- Spain in December 2021
- Isle of Man in January 2022
- Romania in April 2022
- Ontario in May 2022
In addition to those launches, the company has announced seven different partnerships.
While Hacksaw has expanded globally, it’s putting a specific focus on North America. And, in particular, the United States
“We have an exciting strategy for the US,” Hacksaw Senior Vice President of Compliance North America Christine Bordeaux said. “Our team is focused on delivering yet more excellent and memorable products to delight that market.”
