The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas has begun construction on a new Naskila Casino Resort in East Texas, a 685,000-square-foot development designed to transform the existing Naskila Casino into a full-scale hospitality destination. The resort will be located in Leggett, near Livingston, approximately 85 miles northeast of Houston.
The federally recognized tribe currently operates Naskila Casino, which opened in 2016 and features a 30,000-square-foot gaming floor with more than 1,000 Class II electronic bingo machines.
The current property does not include a hotel or resort amenities, creating an opportunity for the tribe to expand its entertainment offerings with a larger destination-style development.
A new tribal gaming resort destination for East Texas
According to a Naskila Casino press release, the planned Naskila Casino Resort will span 95 acres on tribal land and is expected to include:
- A significantly expanded gaming area
- A 366-room hotel
- Dining options
- Entertainment venues
- A resort-style pool complex
- 35,000 square feet of event and conference space
- A grand ballroom and additional hospitality amenities
The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe broke ground on the project June 18, marking a major milestone after years of planning and legal uncertainty surrounding tribal gaming operations in Texas. The resort will be developed in phases, with construction expected to continue for several years.
The expansion follows the US Supreme Court’s 2022 decision in Ysleta del Sur Pueblo v. Texas, which clarified the ability of certain Texas tribes to operate Class II gaming under federal law. The ruling helped resolve a long-running dispute involving tribal gaming rights in the state.
Temporary casino opens during construction
While guests wait for the permanent resort to open, the tribe is launching a temporary tribal gaming facility in Leggett. The venue will operate 24 hours a day and feature:
- 300 electronic bingo machines
- A player’s club
- 24-hour deli
- Fountain drink stations
- Approximately 300 parking spaces
The temporary facility is expected to create jobs and provide an economic boost for Polk County and surrounding communities.
The Naskila Casino Resort represents one of the largest planned hospitality developments in the region and is expected to expand the tribe’s role as an entertainment destination for visitors from East Texas and the greater Houston area.
