State of Play
- Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia pulled in about $4.7 million in gambling revenue during its first 10 days, signaling strong early demand.
- This jump contributed to Virginia’s broader casino haul of roughly $81 million for January.
Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia opened its temporary facility on Wagner Road in Petersburg on Jan. 22 and reported nearly $4.7 million in adjusted gross revenue over the first 10 days, according to the Virginia Lottery.
That total breaks down to about $3.9 million from more than 900 slot machines and roughly $800,000 from 32 table games.
Virginia requires its five commercial casinos to report monthly adjusted gross revenue – wagers minus winnings returned to players – and January’s statewide tally came to roughly $81 million, led by Caesars Virginia with $30.5 million and Rivers Casino Portsmouth at $25.2 million.
More promotional offers should be coming
The strong early receipts mean more choices and likely promotional activity as Live! and incumbents compete for customers.
Operators typically respond to busy openings with targeted offers, loyalty incentives, and table- or floor-management changes to capture and retain play. Bettors can expect a busy promotional environment in the short term.
For operators and the wider market, the figures validate demand in the Richmond–Hampton Roads corridor and may influence staffing, machine allocations, and marketing spend across competing properties. Regulators and local stakeholders will watch monthly adjusted gross revenue reports for tax, licensing, and community-impact signals, while investors use early results to gauge longer-term performance and market saturation risk.
