With no winning ticket from Monday’s Powerball drawing, the jackpot has surged past $810 million ahead of the next drawing on Wednesday, Aug. 27. At its current value, this jackpot ranks as the seventh-largest in the game’s history.
For players opting for a lump-sum payout, the jackpot is estimated at $367.9 million. The prize pool will continue to grow until a winning ticket is sold. With two drawings this week, a winner could emerge as early as Wednesday or Saturday night.
How Monday’s numbers kept the Powerball jackpot rolling
Before rising to $815 million, the jackpot stood at about $777 million on Monday, Aug. 25. At that time, the cash option was an estimated $350.7 million before taxes.
Monday night’s numbers were 16, 19, 34, 37 and 64, with the red Powerball 22. The Power Play® multiplier was 3. No one matched all six numbers to claim the grand prize. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are roughly 1 in 292.2 million.
Although there was no jackpot winner Monday, several players took home big prizes. Two tickets — one in Texas and another in Georgia — matched all five white balls to win $1 million each.
Five tickets won $150,000, while 26 tickets won $50,000 each. In the Double Play® drawing, a ticket sold in Maryland with five matching numbers won $500,000.
Where $815 million ranks in Powerball history
After jumping from $777 million to $815 million, the Powerball jackpot now ranks seventh among the 10 largest in history. It currently surpasses these records:
- Wisconsin: $768.4 million (March 27, 2019)
- Massachusetts: $758.7 million (Aug. 23, 2017)
- Washington: $754.6 million (Feb. 6, 2023)
The six larger jackpots are:
- California: $2.04 billion (Nov. 7, 2022)
- California: $1.765 billion (Oct. 11, 2023)
- California, Florida, Tennessee: $1.586 billion (Jan. 13, 2016)
- Oregon: $1.326 billion (April 6, 2024)
- California: $1.08 billion (July 19, 2023)
- Michigan: $842.4 million (Jan. 1, 2024)
To date, only five Powerball jackpots have exceeded $1 billion, and the prize has topped $2 billion just once. That record-setting jackpot required 41 consecutive rollovers before being won Nov. 7, 2022, by a player who bought the ticket at Joe’s Service Center in Altadena, California.
Jackpot geography: The states that cash in the most
Powerball launched in 1992 across 23 states. It is now available in 45 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Some states have produced more Powerball winners than others. Indiana leads with 39 jackpot winners, followed by Missouri (31), Minnesota (22), Pennsylvania (19), Kentucky (19) and Wisconsin (19). Florida, Louisiana and California each have had 17 jackpot winners.
California produced three winners between 2022 and 2023, including one who shared the record $1.586 billion jackpot in January 2016 with players in Florida and Tennessee.
Predicting where the next winner will come from is impossible. With 45 states participating and odds of about 1 in 292.2 million, the outcome is entirely random.
Roll it again? The stakes for Wednesday’s Powerball drawing
Wednesday’s drawing will mark the 38th consecutive rollover. The last jackpot win occurred in California on May 31, 2025, about two months and 27 days ago.
If a winning ticket is sold Wednesday, the player can choose between a cash payout of about $367.9 million or the full annuitized prize of $815 million. The annuity option includes an initial payment followed by 29 annual installments, each rising 5%. Both options are subject to federal and state taxes.
If no winner emerges, the jackpot will roll over again, with the next drawing scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 30. That could push the prize pool even higher — potentially into record territory by the end of the week.
