State of Play: As gambling apps gain traction across the US, awareness of gambling risks is more critical than ever.

A recent survey reveals that nearly 20 million Americans exhibit problematic gambling behaviors, highlighting the need for vigilance and support.

The rising popularity of online casinos and sports betting apps has left many players questioning their gambling habits. Players and those close to them must stay informed about responsible gambling practices and utilize available resources when needed.

Early intervention is crucial

According to a survey conducted by the National Council on Problem Gambling, approximately 20 million adults in the US reported experiencing at least one form of problematic gambling in the past year.

Symptoms of gambling addiction can include persistent thoughts about betting, an increased need to wager larger amounts, and a continual return to gambling in hopes of recovering losses. Most concerning is the tendency to gamble despite adverse effects and the need to conceal gambling activities from loved ones.

Recognizing the signs of gambling problems is crucial for responsible gaming. Experts recommend setting strict limits on gambling time and expenditures while ensuring that betting does not serve as an unhealthy coping mechanism.

Those who find themselves gambling excessively should reach out for help, as resources like the 800-GAMBLER hotline and Gamblers Anonymous are readily available to provide support and guidance.

Gambling is meant to be fun and a form of entertainment. It’s not intended as a means to generate money or as an additional revenue source. If you or your family notice any changes in your behavior or mood, step away and take a moment to cool down.

If the problems persist, it’s essential to know that help is available. One of the best things online gambling operators and gamblers can do is highlight that it’s OK to ask for help.

Awareness and early intervention can significantly alter an individual’s gambling experience and outcomes.
