For Illinois users, gameplay and promos are going away, while redemptions remain available for now.
The board said the platforms are operating illegally under Illinois law and warned companies to block Illinois residents or risk civil and criminal penalties.
Illinois pushes sweepstakes sites out of the market
According to the Independent, Illinois limits legal gambling to licensed riverboats, casinos, racetracks, sportsbooks, and video gaming terminals. That leaves sweepstakes casinos outside the state’s permitted framework in the board’s view.
Illinois Gaming Board Administrator Marcus D. Fruchter said earlier this year that “Illegal online gambling operations threaten consumer protections, undermine responsible gaming safeguards, and are antithetical to the public’s interest in regulated gaming.” He added that the IGB would continue evaluating “all available regulatory and law enforcement tools to combat illegal gambling and to protect Illinoisans.”
What redeem-only mode means for Illinois users
Once the transition happens, Illinois customers can still log in and redeem Sweeps Coins. But access to games, purchases, promotions, new Stake Cash codes, and sweepstakes bonuses will stop.
For players, that means the practical window is on redemptions rather than continued play. The source also noted that Illinois users should redeem rewards soon and contact Stake.us customer support if they run into issues.
The broader market picture is still unsettled. The report said some other companies, including McLuck, CrownCoins, and RealPrize, were still operating in Illinois despite receiving cease-and-desist letters.
