State of Play’s TL;DR
- US online casino revenue reached $1.02 billion in August 2026, matching July’s total.
- Pennsylvania once again led all legal online casino states at $328.6 million.
US online casino revenue totaled $1.02 billion in August, matching July’s total and marking the second straight month above the billion-dollar mark.
That figure across the seven legal online casino states was up 12.3% from $910.8 million in August 2025, according to revenue figures reported by Sports Betting Dime. It was also the sixth time in 2026 that monthly online casino revenue topped $1 billion, bringing the year-to-date total through eight months to $8.07 billion.
Pennsylvania leads the market again
Pennsylvania online casinos posted the biggest state total in August at $328.6 million, widening its lead over Michigan, which brought in $303 million.
Pennsylvania’s August result was its second-best monthly total ever, while Michigan recorded its fifth-best month on record.
New Jersey remained the third-largest market at $259.3 million. The rest of the August state totals were:
- Connecticut: $68.7 million
- West Virginia: $40.9 million
- Delaware: $15.6 million
- Rhode Island: $6.6 million
Growth continues, but not evenly across major states
While national revenue stayed at a historic level, year-over-year growth in some of the largest markets appeared to cool.
New Jersey online casino revenue was up 4.4% from a year earlier, which Sports Betting Dime described as the lowest year-over-year growth rate the state has posted. By comparison, Michigan online casinos grew 15.1% year over year in August, and Pennsylvania was up 12.7%.
Those state-by-state results matter because Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey continue to account for the bulk of regulated US online casino revenue. August’s numbers suggest the market is still expanding overall, but growth is coming at different rates depending on the state.
What the August numbers show for 2026
The August results reinforce how large the regulated US online casino market has become in 2026. With $8.07 billion in revenue through the first eight months of the year, the market has now produced six billion-dollar months already.
For operators and industry watchers, the latest report shows two clear trends supported by the data: national revenue is holding above the $1 billion threshold, and Pennsylvania has strengthened its position as the top online casino state ahead of Michigan and New Jersey.
