With Missouri’s sports betting launch less than a month away, sportsbooks are working with payment processors to prepare for the next key date in the timeline: Nov. 17, the day sportsbooks can issue new accounts and accept user deposits.
Between now and then, the 10 sportsbooks that received temporary licenses are finalizing partnerships with third-party payment processors so they’re ready to accept deposits on Nov. 17.
Key milestones ahead for Missouri sports betting
Once Nov. 17 arrives, the next major date in Missouri sports betting will be launch day: Dec. 1. On that date — barring any issues or setbacks — Missouri sports bettors will be able to place wagers through available mobile and in-person sportsbooks.
Missouri sports betting: available games and bet types
Knowing which types of contests you can bet on and the types of bets you can make is an important part of Missouri’s sports betting launch, as laws and regulations vary by state.
The Missouri Gaming Commission has yet to finalize its regulations for sports betting, so there aren’t any rules yet on what users can and cannot bet on. A preliminary set of regulations will likely be approved and published before launch.
In the meantime, here are some of the more common types of sports and bets that states typically allow:
- Moneyline, spread, and over/under bets on a wide range of professional sports contests
- Prop bets for individual players
- Bets on future event outcomes, such as the Super Bowl or NBA championship
- Parlay bets
That said, here are restrictions seen in other states that we could apply in Missouri:
- Bets on college teams
- Bets on college events taking place in Missouri
- Bets on Missouri collegiate teams
Licensed sportsbooks ready for Missouri’s Dec. 1 launch
So far, the MGC has approved temporary licenses for the following mobile sportsbook operators:
- bet365
- BetMGM
- Caesars Sportsbook
- Circa Sports
- DraftKings
- Fanatics Sportsbook
- FanDuel
- Penn Sports Interactive
While six of the eight license recipients must partner with an existing Missouri casino or professional sports team, Circa Sports and FanDuel earned “untethered” licenses, allowing them to offer sports betting without a partnership.
The following retail sportsbook operators have received temporary licenses and may or may not be open at launch:
- Argosy Riverside Casino
- Caesars Sportsbook (Harrah’s Kansas City)
- Caesars Sportsbook (Horseshoe St. Louis)
- Century Casino Cape Girardeau
- Fanatics Sportsbook (Ameristar Casino Kansas City)
- Fanatics Sportsbook (Ameristar Casino St. Charles)
- Hollywood Casino St. Louis
- River City Casino
Over time, the number of sports betting operators — both mobile and retail — may grow as casinos form new partnerships and emerging mobile operators enter the market.
