If you’ve been among the people who checked out Unibet’s online casino in either New Jersey or Pennsylvania, you might want to check and see if you have any funds in your account there soon. The company has disclosed firm dates for when it will stop offering gaming in those states.

More pressing are deadlines for when players can withdraw any funds currently lying in their accounts. For Pennsylvania players specifically, Unibet’s exit means a new brand will be available for online casino action.

Time is ticking for Unibet online casinos in New Jersey and Pennsylvania

In December 2023, Unibet owner Kindred announced ceasing its North American gaming operations by June 2024. The company appears to be sticking to that timeline as it has announced some important dates for players to note.

According to Unibet’s New Jersey online casino site, it will shut down in that state on May 14, 2024. Players have until May 13 to withdraw any funds in their accounts. People using the app in New Jersey may have already noticed that Unibet has stopped accepting deposits there. That policy went into effect for New Jersey players on April 5, 2024.

Pennsylvanians have a little more time to process the exit of Unibet. Unibet’s Pennsylvania online casino site dictates that it will no longer be available as of June 21, 2024. Akin to the New Jersey process, players have until the day prior (June 20, 2024) to withdraw their funds. Pennsylvania players will still be able to make deposits through May 21, 2024.

For players who may miss the withdrawal deadlines, Unibet will mail paper checks to the addresses it has on file for each player. In both states, Unibet stresses that players should obtain their W2G forms and other tax documents before the withdrawal deadlines.

Unlike how Taco Bell has flirted with discontinuing the Mexican Pizza only to announce its “return,” the exit of Unibet from both New Jersey and Pennsylvania is no publicity stunt. It’s part of a broader global strategy by Kindred.

Kindred’s focus on European markets opens the door for another brand

At the time of its December 2023 announcement, Kindred stressed that it wanted to focus its resources on its best-performing markets. Those include Scandinavian countries and other European nations.

Unibet’s online casino product failed to gain any significant ground in either New Jersey or Pennsylvania. However, its land-based partner in Pennsylvania, Mohegan Pennsylvania, is not giving up on competing in the market when it comes to online casino play.

Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment will instead use the opportunity to bring its proprietary online casino platform to Pennsylvania. The company currently offers that product in Connecticut and New Jersey. A date for when that app will be available is still unknown.

Current Unibet players in Pennsylvania should note, however, that their account information and other elements will not be automatically migrated over to Mohegan online casino when it launches in their state. Rather, they will have to register original accounts with that app when that time comes.

As far as New Jersey goes, the Hard Rock Atlantic City has not made any statements as to whether it will replace Unibet. That brand’s own Hard Rock Bet Casino and bet365 Casino also operate in New Jersey under Hard Rock Atlantic City’s license.

What is certain is that if you enjoy the games on Unibet Casino in either state, you should see if any of the other apps available in your state offer the same games soon.
