Playtech announced producing live games based on the iconic TV quiz show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” (WWTBM). The announcement came with the news of a two-year deal extension with Sony Pictures Television, which owns the rights to the iconic game show.
According to the agreement, Playtech Live will retain the rights for the WWTBM in live gaming form until the end of 2028.
The companies are expanding the agreement across North America.
Two-year extension of a Playtech-Sony five-year contract
“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” is a globally recognized television game show that has gotten the audience’s attention since its debut. The Playtech Live games include many of the classic “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” TV show features, such as:
- 50/50
- Ask the Audience
- Ask the Host, allowing the player to have incorrect answers removed based on the level of questions they have reached
Playtech previously announced a five-year strategic contract with Sony Pictures Television to bring three live dealer games of the desired WWTBM brand into the Playtech Live digital entertainment portfolio. The agreement has allowed Playtech to develop three separate online casino games:
- Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? Live Roulette
- Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? Live Trivia
- Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? Video Poker Live
The company also announced it would be developing a more dedicated Millionaire branded games network-wide.
Playtech aims to expand its presence in the North American market
Playtech continues to demonstrate its commitment to capitalizing on the growing potential of the North American gaming market.
Playtech’s collaboration with Sony Pictures Television will extend to more territories, including the US, Mexico, and Canada, as the provider recognizes the significant player base in these regions.
Furthermore, this aligns with Playtech’s predominant strategy of partnering with popular brands to deliver a supreme gaming experience to a diverse and growing player base.
Sasha Uman, chief commercial officer at Playtech Live, said in the news release:
“Collaborating with Sony Pictures Television has been a tremendous opportunity for us. It showcases our commitment to securing top iconic brands in the game show and entertainment industry, and our dedication to offering high-quality and innovative gaming options to the audience.
It has allowed us to bring a diverse range of interactive games including Live Roulette, Live Trivia, and the latest addition, Video Poker Live inspired by the beloved Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Brand.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? has been a global favourite for many years, and we are thrilled to be able to bring the excitement of this iconic game show to players worldwide, especially to our North American audience.”
While growing its presence in the US, Playtech remains consistent in supporting players to gamble responsibly. The company told PlayUSA it’s using a software tool that features risk identification, data analytics, and personalized messaging to this effect.
