Casino game developer Adventura Gaming has introduced Penn & Teller Casino Monte, a card-based table game endorsed by the iconic duo of Las Vegas stage magicians. The creators say the inspiration for the game came from the music video to Run D.M.C’s 1986 rap single “It’s Tricky,” which features the duo playing street monte and performing sleight-of-hand tricks.

The game made its debut at the brick-and-mortar Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Adventura is a recent entry to the casino game development space, having launched in 2023. Penn & Teller Casino Monte is its first creation to have hit the gaming floor, but the company intends to focus on this sort of branded content.

Right now, Penn & Teller Casino Monte is available only for live play. However an online casino adaptation is already in the works. A public relations firm representing the company told PlayUSA:

The cofounders of Adventura Gaming believe Penn & Teller Casino Monte will make an excellent digital offering and are now in the planning stages for its digital version, following the official launch of the in-person casino table game on March 3.

First Casino Game Featuring Penn & Teller

Adventura referred to Penn & Teller Casino Monte as the “first celebrity-branded casino table game of its kind.”

David Anthony, President and Co-Founder of Adventura Gaming, told Play USA:

We couldn’t be more proud to officially announce Adventura Gaming to the industry with the launch of our Penn & Teller Casino Monte, a groundbreaking table game that merges entertainment, innovation and the magic of one of the world’s most iconic duos.

“By combining engaging gameplay with a celebrity brand that resonates with audiences outside of slot machines, we’re creating a fresh and exciting experience for players while delivering added value to casino operators,” added Cinnamon Booth, Adventura Gaming’s executive vice president and cofounder.

Penn Jillette, one-half of the iconic Vegas magician duo, also provided his take on the game.

“Casino Monte is a brand-new table game that’s fiendishly fun,” he remarked. “When Adventura introduced us to this new casino table game concept, it quickly became clear—not only could we learn it and play it, but it was genuinely fun. I thought if we can learn it, anyone can, and they’ll have a great time doing it.”

How Penn & Teller Casino Monte works

Three-card monte has a bad name, as it’s a game more associated with street hustlers than legitimate casinos. However, although that sleight-of-hand provides the inspiration for the Penn & Teller tie-in, there’s nothing about Casino Monte that isn’t above-board.

When playing, you’ll bet on which of the three face-down cards have the highest rank. Then, a dice will determine which card is shown first.

You can raise your wager before the dealer reveals the final two cards that remain face-down.

Other facts about the game include the following:

  • If two or three cards tie for the high, wagers on each are paid.
  • You can make a “Full Monte” side bet where, if the three cards form a poker hand of a pair or better, you win.
  • The poker hand pays starting at even money and goes up to 100 to

Here’s a complete guide of the payouts:

  • Pair: 1 to 1
  • Flush: 3 to 1
  • Straight: 5 to 1
  • Three-of-a-kind: 10 to 1
  • Straight Flush: 25 to 1
  • Suited Three-of-a-Kind: 100 to 1

With Penn & Teller Casino Monte, you can also bet on “Penn,” “&,” or “Teller,” and as Adventura put it, “the higher the card, the better the chances to win.”

  • If the dice lands on 1 or 2, the Penn card will be revealed.
  • If the dice lands on three of four, the “&” card will be revealed.
  • If the dice lands on five or six, the Teller card will be revealed.

“Table games could use some innovation,” Anthony said. “We’re trying to bring a different kind of audience to the casino.”
