With over 50 years of working with state lotteries, Scientific Games has made news headlines again by announcing a partnership expansion with the Kansas Lottery. Scientific Games will now provide Kansas with an instant lottery game program.

This development is part of an existing partnership that began in 2018. Scientific Games has been responsible for providing the lottery system with up-to-date technology.

In a press release, Executive Director of the Kansas Lottery Stephen Durrell said the lottery was happy to extend their partnership. “We are excited to advance our collaboration with Scientific Games through this expanded partnership.”

This lottery agreement will run for five years and calls for an extra five years of continuation. Meanwhile, Scientific Games and the New York Lottery have extended their agreement, which has been in place since 1976.

Key takeaways

  • Scientific Games will deliver instant lottery games to the Kansas Lottery.
  • The new agreement will last for five years, with the option to extend for another five years.
  • The SCiQ retail ecosystem will be deployed at select Kansas Lottery retailer locations to improve instant game inventory management and provide real-time sales data.

What to expect from the instant lottery game program in Kansas?

For this new partnership, the Georgia-based developer will provide:

  • Data analytics
  • Game planning services
  • Marketing support
  • Licensed brand services
  • Advanced logistics

“As a systems customer since 2018, the Kansas Lottery is adding the SGEP program and technology that will expertly manage instant products across its network of approximately 1,700 retailers using data analytics.

This takes vision and a willingness to create change in their instant game program, and we commend the Lottery’s leadership team on their work to continually improve profits for the state of Kansas,” President of Americas and Global Instant Products for Scientific Games John Schulz said.

To improve its core services offered in this collaboration, that is, instant game inventory management, Scientific Games will deploy its SCiQ retail ecosystem at some specific Kansas Lottery retailers.

In addition to enhancing the retailer’s experience in selling lottery products, the SCiQ technology further improves the administration of instant game inventories. Real-time sales data at the store level is also provided, in addition to increased safety. Durrell added:

“The track record of this technology-driven program is promising, and it provides an opportunity for us to grow the performance of our entire game portfolio.”

Widespread adoption and developments in instant lottery games

More than 20 lotteries, including the top five in the world, have already adopted Scientific Games’ instant lottery game program.

During the fiscal year 2022–23, the Scientific Games Enhanced Partnership initiative was responsible for a 33% rise in the performance of lotteries in the United States that used the program (MAP weekly per capita sales).

The lottery service provider recently released a “Games of Thrones” lottery scratch-off game. The new game was developed with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Themed Entertainment.

Scientific Games works with other states for traditional and online lottery, including:

The Kansas Lottery has existed since 1987. Since then, it has earned more than $1 trillion in tax revenue.
