International Game Technology (IGT), a leading software supplier company is expanding its presence by deploying its PlaySports™ technology at Mississippi casino Treasure Bay Casino and Hotel in Biloxi.
Under the terms of the agreement, Treasure Bay converted its former retail sportsbook platform to the IGT’s PlaySports solution. That includes on-premises mobile technology and the supplier’s PlaySports trading advisory services.
Treasure Bay Casino and Hotel plans to enhance its current sportsbook
Jeff Prusinowski, Treasure Bay Casino and Hotel Biloxi, MS., Corporate Vice President of Operations, said via today’s release:
“Converting to IGT’s high-performing PlaySports technology allows Treasure Bay Casino and Hotel to enhance our current sportsbook offering and engage players with new avenues for betting.
The addition of on-premise mobile betting provides superior player convenience, enabling patrons to place wagers from almost anywhere within our casino property, and establishes a first-rate platform from which to launch statewide mobile sports betting should it be legalized. We’re excited to partner with IGT PlaySports for the next generation of our sportsbook.”
The deal came shortly after IGT agreed to launch its PlaySports platform at the Betfred at Mohegan Sun Sportsbook in Nevada. Joe Asher, IGT President of Sports Betting, added:
“The flexibility and high performance of IGT PlaySports’ proven platform, hardware and tailored services allows Treasure Bay Casino and Hotel to grow its sportsbook operations with confidence. We expect that the casino will maximize the potential of its sports betting offering and benefit from IGT PlaySports’ vast experience and leadership in the US sports betting market.”
Where else can players place online sports bets in Mississippi?
Apart from Treasure Bay Casino and Hotel, Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica allows players to bet online using the BetMGM mobile app. All players visiting Gold Strike can place the following bets:
- Live in-play
- Parlay bets
Some tribal locations also allow some forms of online betting, only accessible on-premises. The tribal casinos belonging to the Pearl River Resort – Bok Homa, Golden Moon and Silver Star – allow players to use their PRRSports app on sites.
Will state legislators bring online sports betting to Mississippi?
For now, sports betting is only allowed at Mississippi retail casino premises. While Mississippi retail sportsbooks have been operating profitably, the state has yet to enable online gambling fully. The state’s online sports betting market is up for expansion again.
The chair of the Mississippi House’s gaming committee, Rep. Casey Eure, has recently introduced HB 606. As opposed to bills previously presented to the committee, this bill proposes geofencing requirements. So, instead of obliging players to be on casino premises, eligible bettors could place bets from anywhere inside the state.
If HB 606 were to pass, it would allow the state’s race tracks to offer retail sportsbooks and apps. In the meantime, Mississippians can only visit three border states – Tennessee, Arkansas, and Louisiana – to place legal online bets.
