The World Poker Tour (WPT) is jumping into sweepstakes poker, and it’s hoping to make a huge splash. The well-known poker brand announced launching a sweepstakes poker site next year, ClubWPT Gold.

The sweepstakes site allows poker players to compete on a free-to-play platform. To drum up a solid base of players for launch, the WPT is hosting a $5 million freeroll tournament for 2,000 ClubWPT players in December in Las Vegas.

According to a WPT press release, players need to set up a free account at ClubWPTGold.com to enter the tournament. ClubWPT Gold is live for registrations but poker will not launch on the site until early 2025.

Key takeaways

  • World Poker Tour is launching a sweepstakes online poker site, ClubWPT Gold, in early 2025.
  • ClubWPT Gold players can play for free and earn sweepstakes coins from daily play.
  • The WPT is hosting a $5 million freeroll tournament to promote the forthcoming site.

How ClubWPT Gold sweepstakes poker will work

WPT’s sweepstakes online poker site will work similarly to free-to-play mobile games. Users don’t have to pay anything to set up an account or play poker.

However, they can purchase gold coins to participate in play-money games. At the same time, players will earn sweepstakes coins they can redeem for seats at cash games and tournaments.

When the site’s poker play launches in early 2025, users will log in and choose between two types of play: standard and promotional. Promotional play is what gives players a chance at cash and prizes. To participate in promotional play, users need sweeps coins.

Players can earn sweeps coins in three ways. First, players earn sweeps coins every day they log in. Second, they can earn them by purchasing gold coins.

Whenever they buy gold coins, ClubWPT Gold will award the player an equal number of sweeps coins. Finally, players can earn sweeps coins by sending a letter or postcard to WPT requesting sweeps coins.

Players in all but four states are eligible to sign up for a ClubWPT Gold account. The four excluded states are Idaho, Michigan, Montana, and Washington.

WPT to award 2,000 seats at $5M freeroll to ClubWPT Gold members

WPT will celebrate ClubWPT Gold’s imminent launch with a $5 million freeroll poker tournament from Dec. 13-15 at Wynn Las Vegas (NASDAQ: WYNN). WPT will sit at the tournament via a “Golden Passport” and randomly send around 2,000 users who’ve signed up for ClubWPT Gold.

The tournament’s first-place finisher will earn $1 million, while 25% of the field will take home cash. Other promotions include:

Second-chance drawings that will award seats at the $10,400 WPT World Championship event in Las Vegas.

A mystery bounty with $720,000 in bounties, with the top prizes being a pair of $100,000 bounties.

Those who make it to the final table are guaranteed at least $20,000 and have a chance to earn a mystery bounty of up to $200,000.

According to a Bonus.com post, the tournament’s finale will be livestreamed. WPT CEO Adam Pliska said in a statement:

“Our return to Wynn Las Vegas this December is equipped with another monumental investment into the development and growth of not only the WPT World Championship but the poker industry as a whole.

“In celebration of the launch of ClubWPT Gold, we’re aiming for another first for the poker world with the largest freeroll ever offered.”
