Delaware North, one of the leading US casino operators in the northeast, is changing the name of a New Hampshire casino to pay homage to the city of Nashua.
In a press release, Delaware North announced Boston Billiard Club & Casino will now be known as Gate City Casino.
Nashua casino’s new name reflects a change in the gaming offered
Delaware North had been exploring a name change since it purchased the Boston Billiard Club & Casino in October. According to the operator, it sought a more “appropriate name” to reflect the casino’s move from billiards to historic horse racing (HHR) gaming machines and sports betting.
In a Gate City Casino press release, Brian Hansberry, President of Delaware North’s gaming division, said: “Boston Billiard Club & Casino has been a popular entertainment venue in Nashua since 2000 and is the longest operating charitable casino in the city.”
Hansberry said the property has contributed over $15 million to local and state charitable organizations since 2016.
“We renamed it the Gate City Casino to pay homage to its location and history in Nashua. Much like Nashua’s history as the travel and economic/cultural “gateway” between the major city of Boston to Manchester, Concord and all of New Hampshire, the new name reflects the expanded casino’s significance to the region.”
New Hampshire’s Gate City Casino expansion work continues
Delaware North said casino expansion plans are still ongoing. Plans include a bigger poker room and more than 300 HHR machines. Furthermore, the additional 200 HHR machines will be operational by mid-October.
Lastly, the new DraftKings Sportsbook will open this week and feature 12 self-service sports betting kiosks and an over-the-counter betting window. In July, New Hampshire generated $36.9 million in sports betting handle.
Other amenities include:
- Multiple television screens
- Food and beverage service
- Casino sports bar
Additionally, construction continues on a new 337-room Sheraton Nashua hotel, which the company acquired last October along with the New Hampshire casino.
“While we are completing the expansion at the current location, our vision is to house the casino at the hotel within a couple of years,” Hansberry said. “We want to provide onsite accommodations for casino patrons traveling from greater Boston and the New England region.”
