Rhode Island’s iGaming market continues to grow.
The state’s online casino earned $2.3 million in net gaming revenue in June, up around $80,000 over May, according to the latest data from the Rhode Island Lottery. It was the third straight month that online casino revenue increased, a positive sign for a state that launched iGaming in March.
Key takeaways
- Rhode Island online casino revenue topped $2.3 million for the first time.
- Revenue was up 3.5% compared to May.
- Table games revenue has dropped in the past two months.
Slots revenue surges as table games revenue struggles in June
While Rhode Island’s online casino revenue rise over the past three months seems straightforward, it’s not quite as tidy behind the scenes.
Online slots
Revenue from online slots has grown each month, posting 8.05% growth from May to June.
Month | Slots revenue | Growth |
---|---|---|
March | $971,906 | N/A |
April | $1,340,779 | 37.95% |
May | $1,628,224 | 21.44% |
June | $1,759,254 | 8.05% |
Total | $5,700,163 | N/A |
Table games
Table games, on the other hand, have slowed down considerably the past two months, dropping 15.27% in May and 8.22% in June.
Month | Table games revenue | Growth |
---|---|---|
March | $238,641 | N/A |
April | $740,579 | 210.33% |
May | $627,472 | -15.27% |
June | $575,919 | -8.22% |
Total | $2,182,611 | N/A |
Overall revenue
According to the Rhode Island Lottery’s monthly iGaming revenue report, the state’s overall iGaming revenue has kept up its monthly growth. But we will see how long that growth continues.
Month | Total revenue | Growth |
---|---|---|
March | $1,210,547 | N/A |
April | $2,081,358 | 71.94% |
May | $2,255,696 | 8.38% |
June | $2,335,173 | 3.52% |
Total | $7,882,774 | N/A |
Slots, which typically drive most of a state’s online casino revenue, have slowed its growth from 21.45% in May to 8.05% in June. That growth decline and table games’ monthly losses have tempered overall growth from 8.38% in RI’s May 2024 gaming revenue to 3.52% in June.
What’s ahead for Rhode Island iGaming?
In general, new online casino markets come out strong and then eventually level off.
Is June’s 3.05% growth a sign that the Rhode Island market is creeping closer to maturity? It’s hard to say, mainly because the summer months are slower for online casinos and gaming in general.
However, the slowdown in monthly growth indicates the market could be reaching an initial level of maturity. An early plateau wouldn’t be surprising.
Bally’s operates the state’s online casino and Rhode Island’s two land-based casinos. It has a significant presence in the state and, therefore, could reach iGaming market saturation relatively quickly especially considering Rhode Island is home to just under 1.1 million people.
