The NFL finally announced that Las Vegas will host Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11, 2024. This announcement has been years in the making since Las Vegas broke ground on the home of the Las Vegas Raiders, Allegiant Stadium.
In a statement on Wednesday, Las Vegas Raiders Owner Mark Davis could barely contain his excitement over Las Vegas hosting multiple NFL events in the next three years:
“Hosting the 2022 Pro Bowl..The 2022 NFL draft.. And now the 2024 Super Bowl are just some of the ancillary benefits resulting from the public-private partnership we created with the state of Nevada to bring the Raiders to Las Vegas and build Allegiant Stadium. It’s only the beginning..”
Rumors often swirl about the NFL granting teams the privilege of hosting a Super Bowl whenever there’s a new stadium. This isn’t a guarantee but it makes sense for the league to promote its newest facilities.
The buzz about Las Vegas hosting a Super Bowl grew even louder last year. The league added an additional week to the NFL schedule. This change forced the New Orleans Saints to push back when the city could host the Super Bowl at Caesars Superdome. The extra week created a scheduling conflict with Mardi Gras. New Orleans will now host the Super Bowl in 2025.
New Orleans’ loss is Las Vegas’ gain. Las Vegas was the favorite to host the Big Game when this was announced last year.
The league will release information about events during the week leading up to the Super Bowl in a couple of years.
Super Bowl will bring major economic impact to Las Vegas
According to the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee, Super Bowl LIV in 2020 generated $571 million. The Big Game brought nearly 5,000 new jobs to the Miami area. Thousands of media members and NFL staff members were also in Miami for some of or the entire week.
Being the original sports betting and gambling hub, Las Vegas is already used to big crowds on Super Bowl weekend. Visitors have been flocking to Las Vegas to watch and wager on the Super Bowl for years.
The major difference when hosting the actual Super Bowl game will be the additional media and NFL staff visiting for a week of events. This means thousands more people than usual will be reserving hotel rooms.
Booking engines don’t allow searches into 2024 but it would not be a surprise to see record-high hotel room prices in Las Vegas for the week. The major impact for Las Vegas hotels will take place in the days leading up to Super Bowl weekend when hotel room prices are already higher than usual.
2022 Pro Bowl and Draft
In other Las Vegas–football news, the 2022 NFL Pro Bowl will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Feb. 6, 2022. The game will be played at noon (PT) with NFL-related events taking place throughout the week.
The, the 2022 NFL Draft will take place at multiple locations in Las Vegas from April 28-30, 2022. This was supposed to take place in Las Vegas last year but the live event was postponed due to COVID-19.
Plans for the 2022 NFL Draft in Las haven’t been released yet. The 2020 plan had the events taking place at casino-hotels operated by Caesars and MGM Resorts.
