MGM Resorts Deal With Marriott Delayed Until 2024

The MGM Resorts and Hyatt partnership, MGM Collection With Marriott Bonvoy, which should have begun on Oct. 1, is delayed until early 2024.

In July, MGM Resorts announced the MGM Collection With Marriott Bonvoy partnership. The affiliation with the international hotel operator was slated to begin on Oct. 1 when MGM’s deal with Hyatt ended.

Well, October is ending and the partnership between MGM Resorts and Marriott hasn’t started. The deal won’t get started until sometime early in 2024 according to numerous sources.

It appears as though the hackers that attacked MGM Resorts and Caesars earlier this year have set their eyes on LBA Hospitality. The company operates numerous hotel chains, including Marriott.

Details on the LBA Hospitality cyberattack are still developing. This wouldn’t be the first time there was a data breach at Mariott. In 2020, more than 5 million guest records were compromised.

MGM Resorts is estimating that the cyberattack cost the company $100M. More information about the LBA Hospitality hack should follow as the company pays off hackers like Caesars or tries to reclaim its computer system like MGM Resorts.

Marriott in Las Vegas

Although the partnership with MGM Resorts hasn’t started yet, Marriott has 31 hotels in Las Vegas. The Cosmopolitan is still part of the Marriott Bonvoy system from a previous arrangement.

J.W. Marriott in Summerlin is the only other property operated by the hotel company in Las Vegas that is physically connected with a casino. It’s the hotel partner of Rampart Casino.

Marriott also owns land near the Las Vegas Convention Center. The hotel operator kept the bare land zoned for a casino earlier this year when it opened a temporary pop-up casino.

Some day, a full-service casino hotel could open on this land. When Marriott finds a buyer for this land it could also include a few of its 31 Las Vegas hotels.

Looking forward to the ‘MGM Collection With Marriott Bonvoy’

There isn’t much information about the MGM Collection With Marriott Bonvoy deal. But we know the deal includes 17 MGM Resorts casinos around the US.

MGM Resorts Las Vegas casinos will be split into different Marriott segments:

  • Aria will be part of the Autograph Collection
  • Bellagio will be part of the Luxury Collection
  • Park MGM will be part of the Tribute Collection

The following MGM Resorts Las Vegas properties will be part of the MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy.

  • Excalibur
  • Luxor
  • Mandalay Bay
  • MGM Grand and The Signature
  • New York-New York
  • NoMad (at Park MGM)
  • Vdara

This deal does include a BetMGM component in this partnership. It appears as though BetMGM will provide Marriott Bonvoy members with ways to earn Marriott Bonvoy points on certain transactions.

Regardless of the specifics of the partnership, it appears as though Marriott’s deal with The Cosmopolitan will not change even though MGM Resorts purchased operations of the casino resort. The casino hotel between Aria and Bellagio will remain part of the Autograph Collection.

This is an important partnership for MGM Resorts. When the deal was first announced, Bill Hornbuckle, President and Chief Executive Officer of MGM Resorts, said in a press release:

“We’ve seen first-hand the strong demand from Marriott International customers through our existing relationship at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, and this new agreement will enable us to further optimize our overall profitability.

We’re thrilled to now scale the relationship and offer Marriott Bonvoy members greater distribution access to our award-winning resorts – as well as exclusive event and entertainment opportunities – in Las Vegas and across the US.”

More information about the MGM Collection With Marriott Bonvoy should be revealed early next year.

MGM Resorts and Hyatt deal still alive for some

Frequent travelers hope the MGM Collection With Marriott Bonvoy is similar to its previous hotel partnership with Hyatt.

MGM Resorts and Hyatt had one of the most valuable partnerships between a casino company and a national hotel operator. The mutual status matching between the two rewards programs was beneficial in Las Vegas casinos and hotels internationally.

While the deal is over, some World Of Hyatt members will keep their status with MGM Rewards. Those who matched tiers MGM Rewards before July 14, 2023, can keep their MGM Rewards status through Jan. 31, 2024.
