The Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB) revealed gaming revenue for August was nearly $257.7 million. The report includes gaming revenue from:
- Louisiana’s 15 riverboat casinos
- The state’s lone land-based casino, Harrah’s New Orleans
- Racetracks with slot machines
- Video gaming terminals
- LA online sports betting and retail sportsbooks
Most revenue came from Louisiana riverboat casinos (almost $136.1 million), while slots at racetracks brought in nearly $25.1 million. The state’s only land-based casino generated $17.96 million in revenue, and video gaming terminals generated $61.6 million.
Harrah’s New Orleans generates nearly $18M in revenue
Throughout August, the state’s land-based Harrah’s New Orleans Casino generated $17.96 million in adjusted gaming revenue (AGR).
The figure is a monthly increase of 2.76% from July’s $17.48 million and a 7.15% yearly drop from August 2022’s $19.34 million.
LA riverboat casinos’ revenue drops monthly but increases yearly
Louisiana riverboat licensees and waterfront casinos generated $136.07 million in gaming revenue for the month.
The figure is a 1.02% increase from August 2022‘s riverboat revenue of $134.7 million. However, it is a 7.2% monthly drop from July’s $146.6 million.
The most successful operators in terms of revenue generated throughout August were:
- Golden Nugget Lake Charles: $26.7 million
- La’Auberge Lake Charles: $23.7 million
- Margaritaville: $15.2 million
- La’Auberge Baton Rouge: $14.6 million
- Horseshoe Bossier City: $10.4 million
Slots at LA racetracks bring in $25M in revenue
Slots at racetracks brought in the second-highest amount for gambling in Louisiana, generating around $25.04 million in total AGR. Figures are similar to August 2022’s slot total of $25.39 million but represent a monthly decrease from July’s $27.56 million.
In August 2023, the four racetrack’s gaming revenue is as follows:
- Delta Downs: $12,738,049
- Evangeline Downs: $6,025,578
- Fair Grounds: $3,188,293
- Louisiana Downs: $3,084,384
Louisiana sports betting handle increases yearly, while revenue drops
In August, eight online sportsbooks in Louisiana generated $138.85 million in total bets, representing a 23.9% yearly increase and a 13.3% monthly rise.
Meanwhile, online sports betting revenue was $15.04 million, a yearly 16.3% drop and a 4.2% monthly decrease.
Statewide retail sportsbooks collected $15.08 million in total bets, a 6.9% yearly decrease and 23.2% up from July. At the same time, August’s gaming revenue dropped to $1.97 million, compared to $2.16 million generated in August last year.
