Bet365 is set to enter Michigan’s online casino market, one of the most established and competitive landscapes in the US. Because Michigan issues a limited number of online gambling and sports betting licenses, openings are rare. However, PokerStars is exiting the state, leaving a vacancy that Bet365 is quick to fill.
The operator is currently finalizing a partnership with the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, the tribe that originally partnered with PokerStars.
The shift in Michigan’s online casino landscape
PokerStars, which entered Michigan in 2021, struggled to gain a foothold as a major player in the state’s crowded online gambling market. Since its launch, the operator consistently reported lower revenues than its primary competitors.
The decision to withdraw comes amid a broader restructuring at parent company Flutter Entertainment, which has been transitioning PokerStars’ US operations under the FanDuel Casino brand. This exit created the opening for Bet365 to acquire the necessary licensing rights.
Bet365 will partner with Odawa Casino Inc. under the oversight of the Michigan Gaming Control Board, as required by the state’s tribal licensing system. The operator has already signaled its Michigan launch and tribal partnership through recent regulatory filings. Bet365 plans to offer a full suite of iGaming options alongside its sports betting platform.
Securing a limited Michigan real-money casino license
The Michigan iGaming and online sports betting market has been largely closed to new entrants since 2021. The only recent exception was Hard Rock Bet, which launched in the state in 2025. Under state law, online operators must partner with one of Michigan’s tribe-owned casinos or its three Detroit commercial casinos to receive a license.
With the license cap reached, PokerStars’ departure provides a strategic gateway for Bet365. The move also benefits the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, who gain a partner with significant global scale and market share.
