Well-known poker player and influencer Lynne Ji has been charged with attempted murder. The social media star, who has appeared on “Hustler Casino Live” and “Poker After Dark,” is free on a $1 million bond after allegedly assaulting fellow HCL poker player Kevin Gao, also known as “KGAO”. The two were apparently in an on-again, off-again relationship.
Gao, who is much younger than Ji, also dated Britney Jing. Jing is embroiled in her own scandal involving unpaid debts and alleged collusion in several high-stakes games in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Singapore.
Gao said in a YouTube interview with Doug Polk that Ji stabbed him in the shoulder and sliced his hand with a kitchen knife in an attempt to kill him. Plenty of photos surfaced online of Gao with a large gash in his arm, as well as blood spatter all over the apartment.
Ji has denied all charges. “I fully deny all charges and I look forward to clearing my name in court,” she said on X, formerly Twitter.
She has continued posting lifestyle content on X and Instagram.
Inside Gao’s account of the alleged attack
Ji and Gao were reportedly living together in Gao’s home while Ji’s lease expired. According to Gao, he found out that Ji was working as an escort during that time. Bringing it up with her apparently led to the confrontation.
“The night before [the stabbing incident] happens, I find out that Lynne has been escorting while seeing me for the past few months. And, yeah, even though we were officially not together, I mean, it didn’t feel great.”
The next day, Ji tried to raise the subject while Gao was playing online poker. Gao wanted some space, but Ji refused, and the argument eventually escalated into violence.
“Eventually, she comes at me or kicks me or hits me and I restrain her. She’s really trying to hurt me at this point. She takes a really, really hard bite into my leg.”
After Gao pulled her hair to get her off his leg, Ji told him, “You’re going to regret that,” before grabbing a kitchen knife and chasing him. Gao said she eventually cornered him and started swinging the knife, slicing him open.
“She reaches up and stabs down. I’m pretty lucky because I was able to roll over onto my right shoulder, so she kind of like got me [in my shoulder area].“
“I also never thought that she would do something so extreme as to actually attack me with a kitchen knife.”
Ji’s denial and what comes next
Ji told police Gao stabbed himself, which he vehemently denies.
“I don’t think it would even be possible for me to stab myself that deep in the shoulder. It’s physically not possible for me to reach there with a knife.”
Gao said Ji could face five to 10 years in prison if convicted of attempted murder.
“I’m just going to let the criminal justice system do its work and trust that the outcome is something close to fair for everyone.”
It’s unclear whether a trial date has been set.
