Two players won million-dollar-plus jackpots on IGT’s Wheel of Fortune slot machines in October. The first big win came Oct. 17, when a player hit a $1,048,676 jackpot on Wheel of Fortune Cash Link Big Money at Sunset Station Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The second win came a week later, when another player claimed $1,174,483 on Wheel of Fortune Cash Link Reels Double Diamond at Park MGM in Las Vegas.
Delivering million-dollar jackpots since 1996
Wheel of Fortune slots have been a consistent force in the casino gaming industry, delivering more than 1,200 million-dollar jackpots since the first themed machine launched in 1996. In total, these slots have awarded over $3.6 billion in jackpots.
Beyond creating new millionaires, Wheel of Fortune slots helped make casinos more widely accepted in the United States. The TV game show Wheel of Fortune was so popular in the 1990s that many referred to it as “America’s Game,” drawing more than 100 million weekly viewers across 53 countries.
The show’s popularity sparked widespread curiosity about Wheel of Fortune-themed slots. The machines appealed strongly to fans of the show. After IGT partnered with Sony’s Columbia TriStar Pictures to create the themed slots, IGT President David Hanlon told the Reno Gazette-Journal, “The demographics of the television audience are identical to those of the typical slot player. This game has the same potential for the gaming industry that video poker had when it was introduced.”
Play Wheel of Fortune slots online
Although the recent million-dollar-plus jackpots were won in Las Vegas, players elsewhere can still enjoy Wheel of Fortune slots — and potentially win big. The games are widely available at real-money online casinos, many of which offer million-dollar jackpots. BetMGM even launched a Wheel of Fortune Online Casino in New Jersey in 2023.
MGM Grand is also reshaping how players outside Las Vegas experience games on the Strip through its innovative “Live from Vegas” platform. The online service allows players to participate virtually via real-time video streams from sets located on active casino floors. Available games include a betting version of the TV show Family Feud, and the platform could eventually expand to offer an even wider selection of titles, potentially including Wheel of Fortune slots.
