Dutch YouTuber duo Armijn Meijer and Dominique van der Geer took on a hefty quest earlier this month: an unofficial world record attempt for the most casinos visited within a 24-hour period.
While the couple’s attempt was no doubt an incredible feat, the official Guinness World Record for most casinos visited in 24 hours stands at 74. It was set by Kimo Ah Yun and Gary Meyer on October 19 and 20, 2017.
In their video’s description, Meijer and der Geer acknowledge that their attempt was unofficial. They explain that they didn’t attempt an official record due to the specifics of Guinness’s rules, and there being fewer small Las Vegas casinos to visit in 2025 than there were in 2017.
Inside This Unofficial Attempt
Armijn Meijer is the founder of YouGamble.com, and the attempt was broadcast on the company’s YouTube channel. Dominique van der Geer is a Las Vegas travel specialist and owner of a travel agency. The two set off to break the record on February 5 at 11 p.m., with the 24 hours ending on February 6 at 11 p.m.
Much of the journey is cataloged in a 10-hour video featuring Meijer, van der Geer, and their crew traveling to the various casinos over the course of the day.
If you watched the full 10 hours, more power to you. While there are interesting snippets from what I saw when I skimmed through it, much of the content features the pair traveling from one destination to the next. According to the ticker at the bottom of the video, the couple succeeded in visiting 111 casinos with nearly three hours to spare.
The attempt remains unofficial for numerous reasons. The description of the YouTube video explains:
“The official Guinness World Record for most casinos visited in 24 hours stands at 74, set in 2017. However, due to numerous small casino closures during the COVID-19 pandemic and specific rules requiring the use of public transportation, Armijn and Dominique have opted to pursue an unofficial record, aiming higher with 111 casinos.”
The Official Guinness World Record Stands At 74 Casinos
The record for “Most Casinos Visited in 24 hours” is still held by Kimo Ah Yun and Gary Meyer. They set the record in 2015 with 69 casinos, then set out to add five more in 2017. They succeeded, and the record stands.
It’s been almost eight years since the official record has been broken. What would it take to launch an actual attempt and nab the official Guinness World Record?
Turns out the answer isn’t quite as easy to uncover as you’d expect. Guinness World Records is a for-profit organization, so they don’t make a habit of publicly publishing stipulations for each and every world record in their books.
I tried to apply to break the “most casinos visited in 24 hours” record on the GWR website. By the end of the application, I received three options:
- Standard application: 12 weeks for GWR review and to receive the guidelines.
- Priority application: for $800, five-day response time for application review and guidelines.
- Official record event – Invite a Judge: request an official GWR adjudicator to oversee your attempt, starting from $14,000.
I am made of neither time nor money (though how cool would either of those things be?!), so I can’t speak to the exact requirements for this official record.
However, Meijer and van der Geer’s YouTube comment hints that there are stipulations regarding the types of approved transportation. That’s about all I could find without waiting months for a review from the official GWR team.
For now, we’ll just have to wait to see if anyone plans to break the official record any time soon.
