New sattelite Parx casino opening soon

This week, Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment announced it will open a Parx Casino in Shippensburg on Feb. 3. The new Pennsylvania casino will be the state’s fourth satellite casino and 15th casino overall.

Derek Burnstein, a manager at a Verizon Wireless store near the casino, said he believes Parx will be a good thing for the area. “We’re excited,” Burnstein told ABC affiliate WHTM.

“We’re excited to see what kind of business will come to us and to other small businesses as well. Pretty much the economic growth in the community would be good.”

Satellite casinos are smaller-scale locations that are allowed to have 300-750 slots and a maximum of 30 table games.

New casino will save gamblers time and bring money to community

Those in Shippensburg wanting to gamble would drive around to casinos in Grantsville or York. Parx Casino will cut that driving time out.

Additionally, the local community will get a cut of the revenue the casino generates via the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund.

Parx Shippensburg will offer a wide variety of amenities

Parx Casino in Shippensburg is smaller than other casinos in the state. However, it will offer a full lineup of gaming, entertainment, and dining options:

  • Around 500 slot machines
  • 48 electronic table games
  • A 100-seat restaurant and sports bar with a pizza oven
  • Sports betting kiosks

In addition to gambling on the casino’s gaming floor, patrons can bet with Parx’s online casino, betPARX PA.

Pennsylvania casino is hiring ahead of opening

Parx Shippensburg is hiring part- and full-time employees ahead of its opening the first week of February. Open positions include:

  • Cook
  • Bartender
  • Wait staff
  • Cocktail server
  • Surveillance agent
  • Money room clerk
  • Security officer
  • Table games dealer

The company offers competitive pay rates, 16 paid days off, medical and dental coverage, as well as subsidized employee meals.

What will Parx Shippensburg’s revenue look like?

As far as revenue numbers go, Parx Casino in Shippensburg has a chance to generate good numbers. Hollywood Casino at Penn National, which is located around an hour away from Shippensburg, is the state’s top revenue generator.

In November, it eclipsed $70 million. Hollywood Casino York, which is about 75 minutes from Shippensburg, generated around $7.7 million in November.

Parx Casino Shippenburg’s location is south of Hollywood Casino at Penn National on I-81. This location means there’s a good chance the new casino can grab gamblers typically headed north to Penn National.

It’s not out of the question that the new casino could generate more than $7 million a month. Putting it in the ranks of Hollywood Casino York, Hollywood Casino Morgantown, and Presque Isle Downs and Casino.

Parx expands PA gaming influence

The Parx brand operates five gaming facilities throughout the state. The Shippensburg location will be its sixth property in the Keystone State state, and its second casino.

Parx Casino in Bensalem, just north of Philadelphia, is the brand’s flagship property in the state. It’s consistently in the top five for casino revenue. In November, the casino brought in more than $50 million in revenue. It was one of only three casinos to break the $50 million mark that month.

Parx also operates four racetracks across the state. Three of those tracks have sportsbooks.
