Wynn Las Vegas will host the Netflix Cup on Tuesday, Nov. 14. The first live sports event on Netflix will feature athletes from two of its shows – Formula 1: Drive to Survive and Full Swing.

The Netflix Cup will feature F1 drivers and PGA TOUR golfers competing in a match-play tournament at Wynn Golf Club. This is the only 18-hole, championship golf course at a Vegas Strip casino.

This event will take place just before the Las Vegas Grand Prix takes over the Vegas Strip from Nov. 16-18.

This is a change of pace for Netflix. The streaming company has been in the bidding for live sports events for the past couple of years. Earlier this year, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos told The Verge the company would stick to “sports-adjacent programming.”

The company is dipping its toes in the water with this live event that features athletes from two of those “sports-adjacent” shows.

In a Netflix press release, Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer, Las Vegas Grand Prix, Inc. said: “It’s only fitting that we kick off our inaugural race weekend with a fun event that can be streamed by F1 and PGA Tour fans around the globe.”

Netflix Cup teams consist of PGA TOUR golfers and F1 drivers

The Netflix Cup will feature four teams. Each team will feature a PGA TOUR golfer and an F1 driver.

They’ll all play an eight-hole match at Wynn Golf Club. The two top teams will play one final hole to take home the Netflix Cup.

Each team will consist of four players:

  • PGA TOUR: Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Collin Morikawa, and Justin Thomas
  • F1 Drivers: Alex Albon (Williams Racing), Pierre Gasly (BWT Alpine F1 Team), Lando Norris (McLaren Racing), and Carlos Sainz (Scuderia Ferrari)

Gabe Spitzer, Vice President, of Nonfiction Sports, at Netflix, said: “We love to see how our sports series have brought increased fandom to sports leagues and competitions all over the world. The Netflix Cup will take that energy to the next level with global stars from two popular hits competing in our first-ever live sports event.”

The Netflix Cup will announce the pairings before it takes place on Nov. 14. We can only hope for The Sphere to provide a fun backdrop like this for the golfers participating in the Netflix Cup.

Wynn Golf Club is perfect for TV events

Rumors about the Netflix Cup in Las Vegas have been swirling for months. While details on the event were sparse, Wynn seemed to be the obvious landing place.

Steve Weitman, President of Wynn Las Vegas said:

“The Wynn Golf Club has hosted a number of unique matchups over the years and The Netflix Cup will be an incredible addition to the storied history of the course. This tournament will showcase a tremendous roster of talent, competing on the only golf course on the Las Vegas Strip, just steps away from the inaugural Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.”

Wynn Golf Club has hosted numerous made-for-TV golf events. Earlier this year Wynn hosted a The Match featuring Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs playing Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors.

Numerous events are tied to the Las Vegas Grand Prix at Wynn Las Vegas during what it calls the Ultimate Race Week.
