US online casinos finished 2025 on a high note, breaking the record in December for most revenue in a single month and finishing the year with more than $1 trillion in revenue.
The 2025 figures point to a healthy and growing American online casino industry. Online casino operators announced partnerships with new game studios virtually every month, signaling a commitment to offering users the newest game releases and a wide variety of slot titles.
Breaking down a historic 2025 for online casinos
The past year revealed a revenue pattern with several peaks across the calendar year. Revenue surpassed $900 million in March, peaked again in August and finished the year with $934 million in December.
| Month | Revenue |
|---|---|
| January | $832.0 million |
| February | $785.0 million |
| March | $905.9 million |
| April | $876.4 million |
| May | $899.1 million |
| June | $834.9 million |
| July | $881.5 million |
| August | $914.0 million |
| September | $834.1 million |
| October | $879.7 million |
| November | $854.9 million |
| December | $934.3 million |
| Total | $1.04 trillion |
In total, US operators took home more than $1 trillion from online casino slots and poker, marking the first time that has happened in the industry’s history.
The revenue record affirms the growth of iGaming and may offer additional incentives for states to legalize online casinos. Currently, seven states have legalized and launched online casinos: Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and West Virginia.
Michigan, New Jersey and Pennsylvania power the market
The nation’s online casino revenue rises and falls with activity in its three most lucrative markets: Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Each state saw multiple revenue records fall over the course of the year.
Michigan online casinos, in particular, saw its revenue skyrocket in December thanks to the Hannahville Indian Community’s online casino rebirth. The tribe switched operators in the middle of the year and went from generating less than $1 million in monthly revenue to bringing in more than $30 million in December.
Hannahville’s revenue surge helped Michigan generate nearly $300 million in the final month of the year, a barrier that has yet to be broken in the United States.
In any given month, the Big Three account for at least 80% of the nation’s revenue, which is why developments in those states tend to dictate national market trends.
Maine joins the US online casino map
Earlier this month, Gov. Janet Mills allowed the legalization of online casinos in Maine. The development marked a milestone for the US online casino market, as Maine’s move was the biggest industry development since Rhode Island launched online casinos in May 2024.
Maine’s online casino law grants the federally recognized tribes of the Wabakani Nations exclusive rights to online casino gaming, mirroring the state’s sports betting law, which only limits online sports wagering to tribal operators.
“It has always been my strong desire to work with Tribal leaders to improve the lives and livelihoods of the Wabanaki Nations, and it is my hope that this new revenue will do just that,” Mills said in a statement.
