Following in the footsteps of Golden Nugget and Borgata in New Jersey, Foxwoods Resort Casino recently announced it is launching an online live dealer game.

Foxwoods is the largest resort and casino in North America. It offers a variety of gaming options and an online social casino that is free to play. The Connecticut-based casino is taking its brand global by partnering with Authentic Gaming to launch Authentic Roulette.

Foxwoods opens its doors to the global casino market

Authentic Roulette invites world-wide casino players onto the floor of Foxwoods casino to play a live table game. It is the first partnership of its kind for an American-based casino.

Foxwoods’ live dealer roulette tables target international casino gamblers. The live dealer games at Golden Nugget and Borgata casinos in NJ are only available to players located within New Jersey’s border.

Seth Young, executive director of online gaming at Foxwoods spoke about the new partnership with Authentic Gaming and the global brand implications in a press release.

This groundbreaking partnership is uniting players across the globe for a one-of-a-kind gaming experience. Taking the Foxwoods brand international is a monumental achievement and a testament to our position as a leader in the gaming industry. Authentic Gaming is an incredible partner, and together we are thrilled to bring this revolutionary gaming opportunity to life.

Foxwoods’ Authentic Roulette is a single-zero European roulette table. It will be located in the Club Newport VIP Lounge at the Grand Pequot Tower. The game is open to an infinite number of online casino players and will accept bets in real time from regulated gaming markets around the world.

“Foxwoods is paving the way forward by taking land-based gaming tables online. Both Foxwoods and Authentic Gaming are highly passionate about innovation, which is why we are both equally excited about giving online players all over the world the opportunity to play in the largest resort casino in North America from their mobile devices, tablets, and computers,” CEO of Authentic Gaming Jonas Delin said.

Ironically, Connecticut doesn’t have regulated online casino gaming yet, so residents of the Constitution State aren’t eligible to take part.

Is Foxwoods preparing to offer sports betting?

It might be Foxwoods first global gaming partnership, but it has been establishing a digital presence. In February, the casino announced a partnership with PariPlay.

The partnership between the two companies will bring digital gaming on site. Some believe this partnership sets the stage for Foxwoods to launch on-site mobile sports betting.

In a press release announcing the PariPlay partnership, Young said:

The Pariplay on-premises solution is an exciting new amenity that will allow our guests to game anywhere that is legally permissible and will allow us to prepare for broader opportunities outside of the four walls of the physical property.

It is also an excellent new business opportunity for this organization, and by proxy the state of Connecticut, as iGaming has demonstrated its ability to both drive new revenues and augment the operations at brick-and-mortar facilities.

Speaking of new business opportunities, Connecticut passed sports betting legislation in 2017 ahead of the Supreme Court‘s decision to overturn the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA).

While theoretically, there is a law on the books, Connecticut is not quite ready for sports betting just yet.

The Mohegan tribe operates Connecticut’s other casino, Mohegan Sun. Together with Foxwoods, the two tribes contend their compact with the state gives them exclusive rights to sports betting.

Connecticut’s attorney general, George Jepsen, disagrees with that assessment. Gov. Dannel Malloy wants to strike a deal with the tribes by renegotiating their compacts. He is even open to the possibility of including other forms of online gambling.

It may be some time before Connecticut launches online sports betting and casino gaming. Regarding new opportunities, for now, Foxwoods will have to settle for entering the global online gaming market while Connecticut works to catch up.
