Mega Millions Jackpot Hits $800 Million Ahead of Tuesday Night’s Drawing 

No one matched all six numbers Friday, sending the Mega Millions jackpot to $800M for tonight’s drawing — the 10th-largest prize in game history. 

Another shot at one of the biggest Mega Millions jackpots ever offered is up for grabs tonight after Friday’s drawing produced no jackpot winner. The estimated prize climbed from $743 million to $800 million for Tuesday, July 28’s drawing, scheduled for 11 p.m. ET.

It’s the 10th-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history, and the biggest since a $983 million prize hit in Georgia last November.

Van Wert, Ohio remains last Mega Millions jackpot winner 

Friday’s winning numbers were 2, 5, 42, 44, and 60, with a Mega Ball of 1. No ticket matched all six, extending a drought that stretches back to March 17, when a ticket sold in Van Wert, Ohio, hit the jackpot.

Every Mega Millions drawing since — 37 in a row — has ended without a winner, giving the prize more than four months to compound into tonight’s $800 million estimate. 

Cash option tops $344 million before federal taxes 

Tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the US Virgin Islands, with online sales available through licensed lottery websites or couriers in eligible jurisdictions. If someone wins tonight, they can choose between: 

• $800 million annuity, paid over 30 years with payments increasing 5% annually to help offset inflation. 

• $344.2 million cash option, before taxes. 

Federal tax withholding would immediately reduce the cash option to approximately $261.6 million. A winner in the highest federal tax bracket could ultimately take home roughly $216.9 million in cash before any applicable state taxes. 

Current jackpot ranks 10th in Mega Millions history 

Tonight’s $800 million prize sits just outside the upper half of the game’s all-time list. Here’s how the largest Mega Millions jackpots stack up entering tonight’s drawing: 

If tonight’s drawing also ends without a winner, the jackpot would move into ninth place, leapfrogging the $810 million prize claimed in Texas back in September 2024. 

For comparison, Monday night’s Powerball drawing rolled over to an estimated $633 million jackpot with a $277.3 million cash option, meaning lottery players have two shots this week at prizes well into nine figures. 

The numbers that show up most in Mega Millions history 

With a jackpot this size, plenty of players lean on lottery statistics when filling out their tickets — even though every number combination carries the same odds regardless of past results.

Looking across Mega Millions’ history since the game’s most recent number-pool changes, a handful of white balls have come up more often than the rest: 31, along with 17 and 48, have been among the most frequently drawn numbers overall, and 17 and 31 form the game’s most common two-number pairing.

On the gold Mega Ball, 9 has been pulled more than any other number. 

None of that improves the actual math. The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot remain 1 in 290.5 million, regardless of which numbers land on a ticket. 

Big jackpot expected to drive ticket sales 

Jackpots north of half a billion dollars typically bring a surge of new players into lottery retailers and online lottery platforms alike, and tonight’s $800 million prize is no exception. If no ticket matches all six numbers tonight, the jackpot rolls over yet again for Mega Millions’ next drawing on Friday, July 31.
