For the first time, regulated online casino play in Michigan has produced more than $200 million in win for licensees in consecutive months. Operators won almost $202.6 million from players during September 2024.
That sum now represents the second-highest such total for any single month in Michigan as well. That portion of the state’s gaming industry continued its momentum toward a record-breaking fiscal year.
Michigan online casinos rake it in during September
Throughout Michigan, the leaves started turning on trees, and some descended to the soil, creating the need for the seasonal labor of leaf-raking. That raking is a great analogy of the month for Michigan online casinos.
September 2024’s win for licensed online casinos in Michigan is the new high for the month, but that’s still an inadequate demonstration of how good the month was for operators. For three licensees, it was their most lucrative month in Michigan yet:
- Lac Vieux Desert Resort Casino, which is the land-based partner for Hollywood online casino in Michigan
- Leelanau Sands and Turtle Creek casinos, partner for Caesars Palace online casino
- Ojibwa Casino Resort, partner for Golden Nugget online casino
While March 2024 still stands as the best single month for online casinos in Michigan, September contributed the second-highest online casino gaming tax total in the state according to the Michigan Gaming Control Board. That sum surpassed $38.1 million.
Reviewing the entire first quarter of the current fiscal year, there is a lot of raking going on.
Fiscal year on pace to blow away previous record
Through the first three months of FY2024-25, Michigan online casino licensees have reported a total of $590.7 million in win. That’s more than 20% better than the same figure for the first quarter of FY2023-24.
Additionally, all three months of the current fiscal year have brought at least $190 million in win for licensees. From a calendar year perspective, such win has topped $190 million in six of the past seven months.
FY2023-24 was the best fiscal year for online casinos in the state. If the licensees can maintain any of their current growth through the final three quarters of the current term, that record could fall easily.
The change in season seems to have spurred Michigan online casino players to action. Unless their interest falls significantly in the coming months, more record highs seem inevitable.
