Danville’s highly anticipated Caesars Virginia resort and casino will now open on December 17, pushing back its original opening date by five days.

Chris Albrecht, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Caesars Virginia, in a press release thanks the community for its patience and assures the team is working around the clock for the opening.

We know that there is tremendous excitement for our grand opening, and we appreciate everyone’s patience with this short delay. The team has been working around the clock to officially open the doors of Caesars Virginia, and we cannot wait to begin welcoming guests on Dec. 17.

Although, late last month, Caesars Entertainment announced that it has commenced taking reservations for rooms starting December 13, which was just a day after the previously scheduled grand opening celebration for December 12.

A Caesars representative did not respond to an emailed question about how the company is handling those reservations.

What should guests expect from the grand opening?

The grand opening ceremony for Caesars Virginia will kick off at 11 a.m. It will feature speeches from executives of Caesars Entertainment, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and local leaders.

The grand opening festivities will feature a parade of race cars and supercars from Virginia International Raceway, Kaizen Autosport, and Foreign Cars Italia.

Five-time NBA Champion Dennis Rodman will serve as the parade’s emcee and place the ceremonial first bet at Caesars Sportsbook.

Some of the key features of the $750 million facility include

  • 90,000 square feet of gaming space
  • 1,500 slot machines
  • 79 live-action table games
  • 48 electronic table games
  • Dedicated poker room
  • Sportsbook

As Caesars Virginia opens its doors, it replaces the temporary Danville Casino. That location has already made a significant economic impact, contributing over $66 million in gaming taxes to the city and state since its inauguration in May 2023.

Virginia’s gaming industry continues to expand

After receiving regulatory approval in April 2023, Caesars Virginia’s $750 million resort and casino became the third casino operator to be greenlit by the state lottery board since the 2020 legislation.

The other two are Hard Rock Casino Bristol, which opened last month, and Rivers Casino Portsmouth in January 2023.

Caesars Virginia’s temporary Danville casino almost immediately opened its doors on May 15, 2023.

Meanwhile, a fourth Virginia casino is planned for Norfolk, and Petersburg recently approved a Cordish Companies resort and casino.
