FanDuel’s prediction markets app is now available in 18 US states, giving more than 100 million residents access nationwide. The standalone app, FanDuel Predicts, allows users to trade contracts tied to real-world outcomes across sports, entertainment and political events.

The app launched in five states in December 2025 and has since expanded to 13 additional states, bringing its reach to nearly half the country. The latest rollout includes California, Texas and Florida — three of the four most populous states — significantly expanding FanDuel’s potential audience.

How prediction markets work on FanDuel Predicts

FanDuel developed FanDuel Predicts in partnership with CME Group, a major derivatives exchange operator. Users buy “yes” or “no” contracts tied to specific outcomes.

Traders can purchase contracts on who wins the Super Bowl, whether interest rates change or who wins an Oscar. Prices fluctuate based on market expectations, similar to movements in stock prices. Once an event concludes, contracts settle at $1 for correct predictions and $0 for incorrect ones. Users may also trade contracts with others before an event ends, much like buying and selling shares.

Federal regulators classify these contracts as commodities overseen by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. This distinction separates prediction markets from traditional sports betting, which states regulate as gambling, and allows FanDuel to offer the product in jurisdictions where sports wagering remains restricted.

California, Texas and Florida lead FanDuel expansion

The 13 newly added states are Alabama, Alaska, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

The expansion marks a shift in FanDuel’s approach after previously signaling caution around prediction markets in some regions. The move is particularly significant because several of the states do not permit online sports betting. California, Texas and Florida alone represent major markets FanDuel could not previously reach with its sportsbook.

Residents in these states can trade contracts across a wide range of events. Sports fans may focus on championship winners or game totals, while others trade on financial indicators or pop culture outcomes. The app includes tools to help users track spending and manage positions responsibly.

FanDuel enters growing prediction markets battle

DraftKings currently leads the prediction market space in coverage with its DraftKings Predictions product, which is available in 38 states. The company also plans to transition the product to its own CFTC-approved platform, Railbird, to gain greater flexibility and control.

FanDuel’s expansion to 18 states helps narrow that gap. Both companies view prediction markets as a way to engage customers beyond traditional sports betting, a stance that contributed to their withdrawal from the American Gaming Association following disagreements over the sector’s future.

Other platforms, including Kalshi and Polymarket, have gained attention for political and event-based trading. FanDuel and DraftKings now enter the space with established brands and large customer bases.

New options for users in states with limited gaming

For many Americans, FanDuel Predicts provides a new option in states with limited gaming choices. The platform offers a regulated way to trade views on future events under federal oversight, with transparent pricing and settlement processes.

The rapid rollout reflects strong early demand. FanDuel moved quickly following the app’s initial launch, and the addition of 13 states fulfills its growth strategy. Users in eligible states can download the app and begin trading immediately.

The expansion highlights how companies are adapting to a complex patchwork of state laws by structuring prediction markets as commodity trading, allowing them to reach customers with few legal alternatives for event-based participation.
