The Michigan Gaming Control Board’s “Don’t Regret the Bet” responsible gambling campaign continues to gain national recognition after receiving a Platinum Hermes Creative Award from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, one of the industry’s largest evaluators of marketing and communications work.
The award recognized the major expansion of the campaign’s website, developed in partnership with King Media, from a single-page resource into a broader educational hub focused on responsible gambling prevention and support.
Website redesign broadens responsible gambling resources
The updated platform now includes dedicated resources for bettors, families, educators and community organizations. New sections focus on identifying early warning signs of problem gambling, supporting loved ones and accessing professional help.
The website also features downloadable educational toolkits, prevention materials and direct access to gambling support services, including the National Problem Gambling Helpline.
A key addition to the expansion is “Don’t Bet On Your Future,” a youth-focused initiative designed to address growing concerns surrounding teenage exposure to online gambling and sports betting content. The program reinforces Michigan’s legal gambling age of 21 while encouraging prevention efforts involving parents, coaches, schools and local communities.
According to the Michigan Gaming Control Board, the website expansion was intentionally launched ahead of March Madness, one of the busiest sports betting periods of the year, to increase public access to responsible gambling resources during a high-activity season.
“The expansion of this website was about more than adding pages,” MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams said in a statement. “We wanted to ensure Michiganders, especially parents and young people, could easily find trusted information, prevention tools and support.”
Youth gambling exposure drives prevention efforts
The campaign expansion comes as regulators and public health experts continue raising concerns about increased gambling exposure among teenagers through social media, advertising and sports partnerships.
Research from the University of Minnesota found that teenagers who gamble are significantly more likely to develop gambling-related problems later in life. Additional national studies have shown that many American adults were exposed to gambling activities before turning 21.
Michigan regulators have increasingly prioritized prevention and education as online sports betting continues to expand nationwide.
The “Don’t Regret the Bet” campaign has received multiple national honors since launching in 2023. In March 2026, the campaign also earned a Gold Shorty Impact Award in the mental health category for its measurable public awareness efforts and engagement strategy.
The campaign has additionally been recognized through previous Platinum dotCOMM and MarCom awards for its responsible gaming messaging and digital outreach efforts.
As states continue expanding online gambling access, Michigan officials say the campaign’s long-term goal remains focused on prevention, awareness and connecting residents with responsible gaming resources before gambling problems escalate.
