The MGM Resorts Foundation has awarded more than $4.6 million through 211 grants to nonprofit organizations, funded by contributions from MGM Resorts employees and guests. The grants support charities in communities where the company’s workforce lives and works.
This year’s recipients span Nevada, Michigan, Ohio, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts and the greater Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. The organizations provide services ranging from children’s welfare and community assistance to health-related support, reflecting the foundation’s continued investment in local initiatives.
MGM Resorts International, the Las Vegas-based S&P 500 gaming and entertainment company behind the foundation, operates 30 hotel and casino destinations worldwide. Its online gambling venture includes BetMGM Online Casino and extends that reach into many of the same states — including New Jersey, Michigan and Massachusetts — where this year’s grant recipients operate.
Volunteers review applications, choose grant recipients
Employee involvement extends beyond donations. Volunteers serving on the foundation’s Community Grant Councils review applications and help identify nonprofits for funding. This year, 87 council members evaluated hundreds of submissions before selecting the 211 grants.
Maria Jose Gatti, vice president of philanthropy at MGM Resorts, said employee involvement is central to the foundation’s approach to community giving. “What makes the Foundation special is that our employees are invested in this work in every sense,” Gatti said.
Employees contribute their own money, understand the needs in their communities and help ensure the funds reach organizations making a meaningful difference, she said, adding that the approach puts employees and the communities they call home at the center of the foundation’s giving.
Multi-region nonprofits secure grants in several markets
While many grants went to organizations serving a single community, several nonprofits received funding across multiple MGM Resorts markets because of their broader reach.
Shoes That Fit, which provides new athletic shoes and other essentials to children facing financial hardship, received grants in five regions: Southern Nevada, Southern Mississippi, New Jersey, Westchester and Bronx counties, and western Massachusetts.
Gamers Outreach, which provides therapeutic gaming experiences for hospitalized children, received grants in six regions: Southern Nevada, Southern Mississippi, Michigan, New Jersey, Westchester and Bronx counties, and western Massachusetts.
Council members reflect on community impact firsthand
Reviewing grant applications gives Community Grant Council members a closer look at the challenges nonprofits address daily. A Southern Nevada council member described the experience as both emotional and inspiring, saying the applications highlighted the scale of community need while introducing organizations working to meet it.
A member of the Greater Washington Community Grant Council said the review process deepened their appreciation for nonprofits quietly doing important work and reinforced the value of supporting it.
Behind each of this year’s 211 grants is a nonprofit responding to a specific community need. Together, the recipients reflect the foundation’s commitment to supporting organizations already making a measurable difference where its employees live and work.
