New Jersey’s online casinos maintained their record-breaking run in July, with operators generating $276.9 million in revenue — an all-time monthly high for the state, which legalized online gaming in 2013. New Jersey remains one of the country’s largest regulated online casino markets, even as more states move to legalize similar games.
The July total was 12% higher than the $247.3 million reported in July 2025, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE). It also pushed year-to-date online casino revenue to $1.87 billion, up 14.5% from the $1.63 billion generated over the same period in 2025.
The milestone extends a longer run of growth for the sector: Online casino operators generated $2.91 billion in 2025, a 22% increase from 2024, underscoring the continued shift toward digital gambling in one of the country’s largest regulated gaming markets.
FanDuel extends its lead over DraftKings again
FanDuel, which operates through a partnership with Golden Nugget, kept its position as the state’s top-earning digital casino brand, bringing in $61.7 million, an 18.5% year-over-year gain. DraftKings, partnered with Resorts, remained in second place at $48.1 million, a 1.2% dip from July 2025.
The gap between the two leaders widened to $13.6 million in July, up from $3.4 million a year earlier. Both companies have expanded beyond sports wagering in recent years, using their established brands to compete for online casino customers, even as smaller operators work to expand their share of the market.
Atlantic City casinos outearn online gambling for once
Despite the record month, real-money online casinos were outperformed by their land-based counterparts in July. Atlantic City’s nine casinos generated $304.2 million in retail gaming revenue — about $27.3 million more than internet gaming produced — marking the first month in 2026 that brick-and-mortar casinos out-earned online gambling in New Jersey, according to the state’s monthly revenue reports.
The reversal reflects a particularly strong summer for Atlantic City, not a slowdown in online gambling. Atlantic City’s casino floors posted their best single month since August 2025, aided in part by tourism and World Cup soccer matches played nearby at New York New Jersey Stadium.
Online gambling, meanwhile, has remained one of New Jersey’s fastest-growing gambling segments, regularly delivering double-digit annual growth.
Higher tax rates continue to lift state revenue
The record month came under New Jersey’s higher gaming tax structure. The state raised the tax rate on internet gaming and sports wagering revenue to 19.75%, effective July 1, 2025, replacing the previous rates of 15% and 13%, respectively.
Combined with continued market growth, the higher rate helped push New Jersey’s gaming tax collections to a record $925.7 million for the 2026 fiscal year, a 42.3% increase from the previous fiscal year, according to NJBIZ.
Fall sports calendar sets up another strong quarter
July’s results, published by the NJDGE, highlight the growing role of online casinos in New Jersey’s gaming industry. The NFL season, college football and the holiday period traditionally bring higher player activity, giving operators a chance to build on July’s record.
New operator partnerships and expanded game libraries could also reshape the competitive landscape heading into 2027, particularly as smaller brands push to close the gap with FanDuel and DraftKings.
