Bally Casino PA
- Partner: Qualified Gaming Entity (QGE)
- Licensing Status: Approved
- Launch date: June 8, 2023
Bally’s Corp. runs 15 casinos and race tracks nationwide and has received two licenses from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
In March 2023, Bally Casino PA was approved as the Keystone State’s 19th online casino. In January, regulators approved a brick-and-mortar casino, expected to be opened as a mini-casino in College Township, home to Penn State University.
Bally’s Casino entered the online casino scene in New Jersey in 2022 after merging with European software developer Gamesys.
Recently, the PGCB awarded Bally’s a rare qualifying gaming entity license, which allows out-of-state entities to open an online casino without partnering with a brick-and-mortar casino. Bally Casino PA is only the second QGE license awarded by the PGCB.
With the mini-casino license, Bally Casino PA can operate a casino with up to 750 slot machines, 30 table games, a retail sportsbook, stage for live music and special events and fast-food venues.
The Bally Casino PA mini-casino is expected to open at a former Macy’s in Nittany Mall.
Golden Nugget PA
- Partner: Qualified Gaming Entity (QGE)
- Licensing status: Approved
- Launch date: August 2023
Golden Nugget operates land-based casinos in Nevada, Louisiana, New Jersey, and Mississippi, and its online casino is available in Michigan, New Jersey, and West Virginia.
In May 2022, DraftKings — which already operates an online casino in Pennsylvania — acquired Golden Nugget Online Gaming. Nevertheless, Golden Nugget has applied for a Qualified Gaming Entity license, given that it already has licenses to operate in other jurisdictions.
The license approval is still pending as of Oct. 26, so we don’t yet know which direction the casino will take. It may still withdraw its QGE application and try to obtain an operating license from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, in which case it would have to enter a partnership with a brick-and-mortar casino.
If all else fails, the casino may also start operating under the DraftKings brand, limiting the company to only one online casino in the state.
In New Jersey, Golden Nugget’s online game library includes more than 1,000 tiles. This includes slots, table games, and live casino games. It also offers a welcome bonus to new users and regular promotions for existing customers.
WynnBET Casino PA
- Partner: DraftKings
- Licensing status: Interim authorization approved
- Launch date: 2023
WynnBET’s current status is “interim authorization approved,” which puts it one step closer to getting licensed. Since the casino has been waiting on approval for more than a year, it could end up being the first in line to get a green light from the PGCB.
WynnBET is the online arm of Wynn Resorts, a gambling, and hospitality company that has been operating land-based casinos in the US since 2005. Its online sportsbook is live in over half a dozen states, including New Jersey, New York, and Michigan, and its online casino is available in New York and Michigan.
The WynnBET online casino platform features hundreds of high-quality casino games, covering slots, live dealer games, table games, and video poker. In other states, it has featured a welcome bonus of up to $1,000 and other daily and weekly promotions.
PlayStar Casino PA
- Partner: Caesars Entertainment
- Licensing status: Pending
- Launch date: Q1 2023
PlayStar Casino is a European online gambling brand that entered the US market in 2022 when it launched a New Jersey online casino in partnership with Ocean Casino in Atlantic City.
PlayStar has also announced a partnership with Caesars, which would enable it to expand into the Pennsylvanian gambling market. The license application is pending, per the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board application status report.
PlayStar’s website in New Jersey uses a software platform from Gaming Innovation Group, and its game library includes titles from top providers like NetEnt and IGT. The casino also offers a welcome bonus of up to $1,000 and 500 free spins.
Fanatics Casino PA
- Partner: Unknown
- Licensing status: Applied
- Launch date: TBD
Fanatics is a sportswear and sports merchandise company that will be new to online gambling. However, it has announced its plans to launch a sportsbook in 2023 and has applied for an online casino license in Pennsylvania. The application status is pending at the moment.
It’s difficult to say what we can expect from a Fanatics online casino, as it has yet to launch such a product in any states so far. We’ll have to wait for its PA debut to see how it compares to existing options.
High 5 Casino PA
- Partner: Unknown
- Licensing status: Applied
- Launch date: TBD
High 5 is a New York-based gambling company and software provider. Its online presence has mostly been in the form of a social casino. However, it has recently received licenses in Michigan and Pennsylvania to offer its software in real money casinos. Its games are already available at DraftKings Michigan.
High 5 may be one of the few that receive a real money gambling license in Pennsylvania. It has previously announced its plans to start operating a casino in the state, and the PGCB has already approved its software.
Mr Vegas Casino PA
- Partner: Caesars Entertainment
- Licensing Status: Unknown
- Launch date: TBD
Mr Vegas is owned and operated by Videoslots Limited, a Maltese gambling company established in 2011. The casino operates in multiple European countries, featuring gambling licenses from the Malta Gaming Authority and the United Kingdom Gambling Commission.
The Videoslots Group has a partnership with Caesars Entertainment. The company plans to expand its reach to the US by launching Mr Vegas Casino under Caesars’ license in Pennsylvania.
The online casino offers over 2,000 games at some of its existing locations. While all those games might not be available in the US, the platform still appears likely to offer a well-rounded gambling experience.
Tropicana Casino PA
- Partner: Caesars Entertainment
- Licensing Status: Pending
- Launch date: Q1 2023
This online casino previously operated as a prominent online gambling site in New Jersey in partnership with the Tropicana Atlantic City land-based casino. Now, Tropicana’s online casino may soon be coming to Pennsylvania, expanding Caesars Entertainment’s presence in the state’s gambling market.
