First impressions with Break Away Gold
I should mention that I have played other Break Away games before, so I went in with an idea of what to expect. Still, everything about Break Away Gold exudes the physical, fast-paced nature of ice hockey.
I was also quick to notice the game’s sharp graphics as soon as it loaded. This was notable because previous Break Away games featured somewhat dated graphics.
The reels feel compact and smooth, especially on mobile. It doesn’t take long for the slot to reveal its bonus features. Wilds and Scatters are quite common, and you’re bound to trigger free spins before long. You’ll also see Cash and Collect symbols regularly.

Break Away Gold features sharp graphics and overall impressive visuals, which are certainly better than those of the earlier versions. The symbols are especially quite, well, symbolic of hockey. There are hockey players, rinks, pucks, helmets, and other items commonly used in the sport. The grid is set in the center of a vast hockey rink, complete with spotlights and crowds – you bring the action to the ice.
The overall presentation is quite impressive, especially for die-hard NHL fans.

Like the visuals, the soundtrack in Break Away Gold is also all about the game. It is just as high-octane and fast-paced as the action on the reels. Interestingly, you can hear the sounds of hockey sticks and crowds cheering in the background. Indeed, the sound makes the action feel more immersive. However, it may feel a bit overwhelming after some time. In that case, you can always mute it by clicking the speaker icon at the bottom of the grid.

I had fun (and some great luck) playing Break Away Gold thanks to all its many special and bonus features. Knowing that the game has medium-to-high volatility, I set my bets to the minimum amount and then set off playing. The first few rounds didn’t yield much, but that didn’t dissuade me.
Fortunately, it wasn’t long before special features like Cash and Collect symbols started popping up. Wilds and Scatters were also relatively common. However, landing enough scatters to unlock free spins isn’t as easy, but I suppose it depends on your luck. I was delighted to see a bonus-buy feature, as I was eager to experience all of the game’s bonuses. I also think that it’s very affordable compared to many other slots’ bonus-buy features. The bonus feature costs 30x the bet amount, while free spins cost 50x, which is definitely worth it.
I was lucky to land a few wins, albeit they were mostly modest. The Wild symbol played a crucial role in several of my wins. I also landed many Cash symbols, but sadly not enough Collect symbols.
