At long last, the start of Maryland online sports betting has begun. Visitors and residents to the Old Line State can now bet from anywhere in the state.
For now, there are seven online sportsbooks up and running. However, customers can expect many more to launch in the coming months.
Maryland online sports betting launch is here
The Maryland Gaming Commission gave the green light to seven online sportsbooks on Wednesday. The 9 a.m. EST launch on Wednesday, November 23, has been over two years in the making.
The seven operators are:
- BetMGM
- BetRivers
- Caesars Entertainment
- DraftKings
- FanDuel
- Penn Entertainment
- PointsBet
Voters in Maryland authorized retail and online sports betting via a referendum in November 2020. However, until Wednesday, the only legal sports betting options were physical sportsbooks inside casinos.
Maryland regulators have approved licenses for ten online sportsbooks. The other three operators launching in due time will be Betfred, betParx and Fanatics.

In Maryland, in order to use legal sportsbooks, people must be at least 21 years of age. Customers must also be physically within the state’s borders when submitting bets.
