Playson’s 3 Luxor Pots Hold and Win immediately stood out to me thanks to its three bonus features: Expand, Multi, and Collect. I love when a game weaves lots of options into its bonus fabric, and 3 Luxor Pots fit the bill. The Egyptian theme, jackpot prizes, and art style all come together for a cohesive slot experience.

Let’s dive deeper in my comprehensive review of 3 Luxor Pots Hold and Win.

First impressions with 3 Luxor Pots Hold and Win

My initial take on 3 Luxor Pots Hold and Win was that it’s a run-of-the-mill slot with simple mechanics. I wasn’t necessarily wrong, but the game started to reveal more depth as I continued playing.

That said, the graphics and animations were immediately eye-catching enough to pique my interest. I’m not normally a sucker for Ancient Egypt themes—I’m more neutral on them, with the mechanics deciding my preference or lack thereof for the game in question. But 3 Luxor Pots Hold and Win had—surprise!—three pots jiggling at the top of the screen, begging to be filled with coins. The flickering flames in the background added some perspective and flair to the game screen. I wasn’t immediately hooked, but I was interested, for sure.

Visuals and presentation: 5.0/5

Two words: no complaints. (Don’t worry, many more words are coming about the visuals.)

As I mentioned in my first impression notes above, 3 Luxor Pots kicked things off with sharp and striking visuals. In a world of overly bright and colorful slot themes, it was refreshing to open one with a dark and mysterious feel to it. The symbols and coloration stood out right away. Egyptian iconography like the Ankh and the Eye of Horus popped on the screen against the ho-hum J, Q, K, and A symbols.

The three eponymous pots—Expand, Multi, and Collect—sat atop the reels with a glistening sheen highlighting them every so often. They also wiggled a bit at the top of the screen on occasion, drawing my attention to them without overpowering the rest of the game animations.

Spins felt smooth and speedy. They gave me the trademark sense of anticipation without overstaying their welcome, as some slots are prone to do. All the buttons were easy to find, too, with the spin button highlighted in orange. The bet level option, spin speed, and autoplay options were all easy to find and toggle.

3 Luxor Pots Hold Bonus Features

The role of sound: 4.5/5

Nine times out of ten, I play slots on mute. I only crank the volume if the audio is a core part of the experience, like for a slot themed around an iconic movie with a baller soundtrack. 3 Luxor Pots Hold and Win doesn’t fall into that bucket, but I still played with sound on just for you all (you’re welcome).

Overall, it wasn’t egregiously distracting. The background music, though repetitive, was akin to a lo-fi ancient Egyptian soundscape. After a while, it faded into the recesses of my mind, always present but never the main part of the game. I appreciated this, especially in a world where slot games can pound your ears into the ground with obnoxious try-hard tracks.

The reel spinning sounds were nice and unobtrusive. One especially cool feature was the momentum of the music. As I spun the reels, it picked up a bit and added a driving drum beat in the background. That aligned nicely with the feeling of anticipation I got when actually playing the game. If I let the game go idle for a few seconds between spins, it faded once again to the lo-fi track, only to pick up again when I continued spinning. I really liked this small touch. The winning noises and sound effects were equally pleasant without being overly distracting.

I played with sound on for a surprisingly long time compared to my experience with other slot games. For that reason, as I mentioned above, 3 Luxor Pots Hold and Win gets a 4.5 in this category. I docked .5 because the soundtrack is pretty cliché. However, the sounds were palatable and pleasant enough.

Gameplay journey: 4.5/5

No need to dig up ancient ruins or solve any riddles to uncover the wonders of 3 Luxor Pots! The game is simple and easy to use. I opened the game and immediately knew how to do everything. The spin button was prominent, easily the biggest button on the screen. The spin speed button is below it, allowing me to toggle how fast the reels would spin and, subsequently, stop. Autoplay stood at the top, just above the spin button.

Changing my bet was also easy with the plus or minus buttons. One weird nitpick is that the “info” button (a circle with an “i” in it) and the hamburger menu (the three lines) opened the same exact page describing the game’s mechanics and pay structure. It’s not the end of the world, but it feels redundant.

Hitting bonuses and features was a rush thanks to the slick animations and on-screen text telling me something exciting was happening. And I like that you can buy your way straight to the bonus round if you want.

My only major gripe with 3 Luxor Pots Hold and Win is the autoplay function. I like to use autoplay to enjoy multiple game rounds without individually triggering each spin. Most games have options for autoplay, such as the number of spins, when to stop, and loss limits. 3 Luxor Pots Hold and Win doesn’t have any such options. Instead, it just spins and spins at my current bet level until I stop or run out of money. It would be nice to have more customization here.

Other than that, my gameplay experience with 3 Luxor Pots Hold and Win was overwhelmingly positive.

Bonus features through my eyes: 4.5/5

3 Luxor Pots Hold and Win has a single overarching hold and win feature, which the guide simply calls a “bonus game.” Within the bonus game, there are three sub-features: Expand, Multi, and Collect.

There are three ways to trigger the bonus game. The first is by landing six or more bonus symbols (Coins and/or Scarab Coins) on a single spin. The second is by activating one of the pots atop the reels, which can randomly happen when the associated color of Scarab Coin lands on the reels. The third way is by activating the Buy Bonus feature. For 70x, you buy a bonus round that could be 1, 2, or all 3 sub-features (in my experience, 80% of the time I got just one sub-feature and 20% of the time I got two.) For 300x, you are guaranteed all 3 of the sub-features will be active in the bonus game.

During the bonus game, you receive 3 respins, and the coins you land to trigger the bonus stay on the reels. From there, the reels spin, sticking any new coins to them and resetting the spin count to 3 each time. When you run out of spins, the feature ends, and you receive the prizes on all the coins added together.

The three bonus game sub-features grant special enhancements to the hold and win bonus.

  • Expand (green): adds one row to the top of the reels for more possible prizes and adds a multiplier between 1x and 7x.
  • Multi (red): spreads three random multipliers of 2x, 3, 4x, 5x, or 7x to the reels and adds an overall multiplier between 1x and 7x.
  • Collect (blue): gathers all symbols on the reels and adds them to its value.

As you play the bonus round, any active enhancements can continue to fall. For example, in one bonus round, the Expand was active for me. I ended up hitting the green scarab four times. So I added 4 extra rows to my grid, leading to even more prizes.

There’s also a Magic Scarab symbol, which activates one of the other sub-features at random.

The bonus game also has four fixed jackpots, with the pools corresponding to your bet level. If you land a gem with that color, you progress toward that jackpot. Fill all the associated slots (can be 3, 4, or 5) to win the jackpot.

FeatureDescriptionImpact on Gameplay
Hold and WinGrants three respins that refill whenever you land a new symbol on the reelsHas the potential to grant big wins in this highly volatile game.
ExpandExpands the reels with one additional rowMore opportunities for winning coins and values in the bonus round
MultiAssigns multipliers to random spots on the reelsThis didn't often lead to huge wins for me, but a few times, it multiplied my collect symbol winnings or the jackpot, and those led to significant winnings.
CollectCollects all coins on the screen into a single spot and takes on their valueAdds one big win to your bonus round while still allowing more opportunities to win
Magic ScarabAdds another bonus to the boardI hit one of these on about half of the bonus rounds I played, which was fantastic. It was like hitting the bonus round twice.

Balancing risk and reward: 4.5/5

I was pleasantly surprised by the risk-reward balance of 3 Luxor Pots Hold and Win. I’m not usually a high-volatility fan, preferring medium- to low-volatility games. That had me worried going into this title.

And yet, I was proven wrong in my assumptions. I played for an hour and change. During that time, I triggered the Hold and Win bonus four or five times (I had high spin speed active for lots of game rounds). There was one bonus in which I won $79 (fake demo-mode dollars) on a $1 spin. Your mileage will vary, of course, but it was a pleasant surprise and fell in line with the game’s volatility level.

Pros and cons of 3 Luxor Pots

Overall, I really liked 3 Luxor Pots, and I think it would appeal to most online slots players.  However, no game is perfect.

Here are the pros and cons of the game, as I see them:

  • Sharp and clean visuals and animation
  • Hold and Win bonus game with cool sub-features
  • Fixed jackpots available
  • Simple gameplay with surprising depth
  • Music can get repetitive
  • Autoplay doesn’t have any customization options
  • Both menu buttons take you to the same page

Final thoughts on 3 Luxor Pots

3 Luxor Pots Hold and Win surprised me. I went in expecting to feel middling about the slot, but I emerged from my time with the game quite pleased. It was a lot of fun, leveraging its high volatility to create an energetic experience. The game always felt like it had momentum, even during stretches without a win. Players of all sorts should enjoy this slot thanks to its variety of bonus game features and fixed jackpots. I will certainly be back.

Final Score: 4.6
