Growing up, Darren used to hear about his grandfather’s “foolproof” system for betting the horses at the New Orleans Fairgrounds. The system printout was lost years ago. Grandpa lost, too. Darren grew up fishing, crabbing, and playing sports in Southern Louisiana. He went to a giant football factory for college, and watched as the best my school could do was aim for the Carquest Bowl. On a whim, he moved to New Jersey for a job in Montclair, home of Yogi Berra (philosopher) and David Tyree (helmet catch hero). He’s covered sports here since 1998, including the Super Bowl, college football, NBA Draft, and everything in between.
Darren is a reader, writer and runner, not in that order. His nightstand is crowded with books, his laptops break from all the writing, and his ankle aches from all the running.
