For Florida online casino players, social and sweepstakes casinos offer a phenomenal lineup of online slots, table games where you can win cash prizes. These options are great to have until the Sunshine State legalizes online casinos.

Online casino legalization may not be so far away, either. With online and live sports betting’s return to Florida’s Hard Rock Bet and Hard Rock locations, it may pave the way for further legalizations in the near future. In addition, the Seminole Tribe is now offering an expanded list of games, such as craps and roulette, so sentiments may be more favorable than in times past.

What’s happening with Florida online casinos right now?

In a turn of events, the federal court has ruled in favor of the previous Seminole tribe agreement that brought online sports betting to the state of Florida. This is the first step to bring back sports betting and potentially online casino to the state.

To be clear, Florida has not legalized online casinos. There are no legal online casinos in Florida. But our experts have Florida on our radar – stick with PlayUSA for the latest news on whether or not Florida will become the latest state to join the US online casinos market.

Online casinos available in Florida

In Florida, the options for online casinos are similar to other states. In that regard, the available sites are social apps and sweepstakes casinos. They allow you to play your favorite casino games, like slots, blackjack, and roulette, absolutely free.

The top social and sweeps casinos available to Floridians right now are:

WOW Vegas

Floridians who play on WOW Vegas know that the site lives up to its name. With more than 300 slots available at all times and a fabulous loyalty program, WOW Vegas delivers on its namesake promise to leave you awestruck. You have the option to play both for fun via WOW Coins, and for cash prizes with Sweeps Coins. There is never a shortage of bonuses and promotions on WOW Vegas, and it’s always fun on the site.

McLuck

Looking for an excellent social casino in Florida? You’re in McLuck. McLuck’s casino offers slots from the world’s best developers, such as NetEnt and Pragmatic Play. The site lets you play with Gold Coins for fun or in Sweepstakes Mode for the opportunity to redeem cash prizes. Plus, McJackpots can hit on any spin of any game, whether you’re playing with Gold Coins or Sweepstakes Coins.

High 5 Casino

High 5

High 5 has a unique benefit for Florida players: the availability of many High 5 games. The developer brings its own fantastic games to its proprietary social casino. There are more than 600 games to enjoy with either Game Coins (for fun) or Sweeps Coins (for potential redemptions). High 5 also has a third currency called diamonds, which can be redeemed for special perks. Overall, it’s a fantastic social casino site for Floridians.

Pulsz

Frankly speaking, Pulsz has it all: amazing games, a mobile app, a solid welcome bonus, and a progression program that keeps things interesting. Generally, it’s hard to find anything to dislike about Pulsz. Florida players will undoubtedly appreciate the wide variety of games on offer. New players can explore what Pulsz has to offer with a welcome bonus of 2.3 Sweepstakes Coins and a first purchase deal for up to 362,000 Gold Coins.

Chumba

Chumba has been around for a long time, and its reputation holds up in Florida and elsewhere. The site offers excellent bonuses, including a new-player promo and an amazing daily login bonus. This fuels the sheer fun of Chumba. That fun stems from a library of slots, bingo games, and much more. Tack on a bevy of excellent purchase options, and you’ve got one of Florida’s best social casinos.

LuckyLand Slots

Floridians should be unsurprised to find that LuckyLand Slots offers…slots. The social casino is owned by the same company that runs Chumba and Global Poker, though LuckyLand has a stronger focus on slot games. Like similar sites, LuckyLand allows you to play with Gold Coins (strictly for fun) or Sweeps Coins, which let you redeem cash prizes. LuckyLand’s game library is small compared to other sites, but the games are plenty of fun, and the social casino is worth a try.

Funzpoints Casino

Funzpoints

Funzpoints allows two types of play. Standard mode is just for fun, while premium mode allows the opportunity to redeem cash prizes. Beyond the baseline functionality of the site, Funzpoints has a lot going for it, such as high RTP slots, a wheel spin every three hours for prizes, and rewards that increase as you play. Funzpoints has a few dozen slots, and more are added every month or so.

Chanced

Free-to-play social casino Chanced is one of the best sites out there for Florida players. Why? It has a great welcome bonus (10,000 GC and 2 SC), good ongoing promotions for existing players, and more than 150 slot and table games. Most of the games on offer from Chanced are from developers Relax Gaming and Hacksaw Gaming. These are in addition to various Chanced original titles. With its strong variety of games and features, Chanced is a top choice fo Florida social casino fans.

Sweeptastic

Sweeptastic is relatively new to the social casino scene, but don’t let that steer you away. It’s an excellent option for players in Florida, thanks to its diverse array of games, including slots and various table games. The table game portfolio includes baccarat, blackjack, American roulette, European roulette, and more. At Sweeptastic, you can play with Lucky Coins for fun or with Sweeps Coins for redemption opportunities.

Vegas Gems

The currencies at Vegas Gems casino are Shards (used to play for fun) and Gems (used to play for potential cash prizes). The site shines like a gem thanks to a variety of games and ongoing promotions in the form of Cases you can open to reveal perks. Florida players will be pleased to find plenty of amazing games at Vegas Gems, many of them from reputable developer Pragmatic Play.

Real money online casinos vs. sweepstakes casinos

Real money online casinos require players to deposit money into a gaming platform, which they will use to wager on various games. This practice is not legal in Florida.

In social or sweepstakes online casinos, players purchase virtual currency, often in the form of “gold coins,” for play, but that currency cannot be redeemed for real money. Entering contests is free.

Entries into sweepstakes are made with sweeps coins, which are not available for direct purchase. Sweeps coins won as prizes can be redeemed for real cash prizes.

Finally, there’s MyVegas, which is a free-to-play MGM Resorts site. MyVegas is notable because of its system for awarding redeemable comps to players. Although Floridians have to travel to redeem these comps, real rewards are truly available without cost.

Playing slots online in Florida

Like online casinos, online slot play is not permitted by state law. However, social casino sites like Chumba allow free slot play to Florida residents. Until real money online gambling is legalized in Florida, these types of games are the only options.

Will Florida regulate online gambling in the future?

Possibly. Online and live sports betting is underway now, and the Seminoles just introduced an expanded gaming menu to their properties, including craps and roulette. Some of the same factors that made legalizing sports wagering a tricky proposition are also present in conversations about bringing online casinos to Florida. None of those factors are more difficult than the tribe itself.

The group, which owns and operates six casinos in the state, has a virtual monopoly on casino-style gambling – now including of roulette and craps – and unsurprisingly insisted on being a major player in online sports betting. It is safe to assume that the tribe will take a similar position on online casinos.

Legal online gambling vs. offshore sites

A quick Internet search for Florida online casino options will reveal a laundry list of websites seeking your business. They look legitimate. That’s the idea. But, they are not legal.

Geolocation technology prevents reputable online casino companies from allowing players from outside the jurisdictions where they are regulated. It is not legal in Florida to play any online casino sites, no matter how fancy they appear to be. Social and sweepstakes are the best option right now.

Who will regulate online gambling in Florida?

Online gaming in Florida is illegal, but if legalized, it would probably fall under the auspices of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations.

Types of legal gambling in Florida

Currently, the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering regulates:

In addition, Broward and Miami-Dade counties authorize slot machine gaming at pari-mutuel facilities called “racinos.’ Tribal gaming is regulated separately from the state through a contract with the government that is called a Compact.

Each year the state Department of the Lottery sets out a regulatory plan for the lottery’s activities.

It seems clear that a new regulator is required for sports betting. Under the bills that have been brought before the State Senate, the regulator would be part of the Department of the Lottery, and the lottery would be the final authority for the issue of licenses.

Regulating online sports betting is a major change from anything Florida gaming regulators have undertaken. The lottery will have to recruit new staff skilled in the problems of online gambling and sports betting in particular.

What is the legal gambling age in Florida?

Adults can play poker in Florida at 18, but all the sports betting bills introduced – and those for iGaming – would put the age limit at 21 and up, which is in line with the vast majority of other states.

Are there land-based casinos in Florida?

All seven of the casinos in the state of Florida are owned and operated by tribes, six of those by Seminole Gaming.

Florida’s interwoven relationship with several tribes – particularly the Seminole tribe — has allowed for the expansion of gaming in Florida. And, unlike other reservation lands, many tribal properties are near or inside major metropolitan areas in the state.

The Seminoles have operated some form of gambling in Florida since 1981 when they began offering bingo at their Tampa-area reservation (one of six reservations in the state). Today, the tribe owns and operates seven different casinos. These include two Seminole Hard Rock locations in Tampa and Hollywood.

In 2009, Gov. Charlie Crist signed a bill into law that relaxed rules on much of gambling, particularly with regard to poker. Those six Seminole casinos, one Miccosukee-run facility, and several casino cruise boats offer slot gamblers more than 25,000 machines and over 750 table games upon which to play.

Additionally, players can find more than 800 Florida poker tables in cardrooms and racinos throughout the state. There are also various so-called “racinos” with limited options at horse and former greyhound tracks.

The six Florida casinos owned by the Seminole Tribe were granted the right to offer craps and roulette in a 2021 Compact that included sports betting. That compact was voided by a federal judge after a series of court challenges, however. The Seminoles are still appealing.

History of gambling in Florida

Retail casino gambling, pari-mutuel horse racing and an Florida State Lottery are currently the only legal forms of gambling in Florida. A successful constitutional amendment in 2018 was written to curtail further expansion of gambling in the state by putting any growth to a state-wide vote.

Wagering in the state began with dog and horse racing, followed by jai alai, all in the 1930s. Whereas horse racing remains an important part of the economy, jai alai is quickly fading into oblivion and voters chose to outlaw greyhound racing beginning in 2021. The vote turned storied venues as Derby Lane in St. Petersburg into card rooms and simulcast facilities.
